Oh, no, that's right, because it's such a cutting-edge business model . . .

that's why they reinvest back into the business instead of passing them through to investors.

I worked out one year that I was spending about $60 a year on Amazon standard shipping, and I'd passed on more than one Amazon purchase because the price no longer made sense once the shipping costs were factored in. Paying an extra $19 a year for shipping to update to 2-Day made sense, especially as I didn't have to worry about shipping costs on those marginal items anymore.

I really doubt that the math would work out as well if it were $40 more expensive.

And I NEVER use the video stuff. Hulu Plus has all of the TV programming that I need (and it works across more devices), and I have no interest in watching old movies.

for 1 cent Plus 3.99 mailing.
So essentially used books, always in good condition, for 4.00

used books, esp. hardcovers, are a tremendous savings. But the shipping is not eligible on Prime.

on another site that Amazon hasn't raised the rate since 2005.

It also said that shipping and fuel costs are going up, so I guess I can't blame them for not wanting to lose money, especially for families like mine that order lots and lots of stuff from them.

If the price does go up, I imagine it will probably be the lower number, which is still a good deal for me, being all rural and everything. Just going to the city twice would cost that much in gas.

$39 which I consider a very good value. Torchwood and several others that are not on Netflix. Two day free shipping is also a bonus. If it doubles I would probably drop (unless my daughters complain too much about not being able to watch Torchwood again).

That's what I averaged between 2012 and 2013. I think Prime makes sense for me even if it is a little more expensive.

I think up to four others total. If everyone pays a quarter of the cost, you can save a lot.

it does say living in same household. Though you could probably work around it since you can have it shipped anywhere. Kind of stupid to share it with members living with you since you would have probably just ordered it in your name anyway.

sorry bout that.

3rd party vendors and thus aren't eligible for PRIME... I would really have to review my past purchases and how many times THAT has happened before deciding. I surely couldn't justify $40 additional, though.

I order a lot of stuff from Amazon that I can't get locally and my Prime membership has saved me a lot of money in shipping costs. I'm also a heavy user of their Prime video service since I don't have cable or satellite and an extra 20-40 bucks per year wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
