A compelling reason to make DC a state:

They would be able to call out and activate their own National Guard.

How much would that have helped on 1/6/21?

Virginia and Maryland NG were ready to assist, but Sec Def refused to give them permission to cross into DC.

The Capitol, White House, the Mall, Supreme Court, and some other Federal buildings would not be part of a new DC state. It is unconstitutional for the US seat of government to be located within a state.
