If there really is some magical entity "in charge" of it - a proposition I find pretty fuckin' dubious, personally - the Superbowl is not really all that much more infinitesimal in the grand scheme of things than the entire "dysfunctional planet Earth" is.

Who gave the largest donation in absense of going to church this Sunday.
How many fundamentalist Christians are on the local team.

When I learn that a person is religious my estimation of them drops quite a bit. They tend to assume it is the fact of their beliefs that I have an issue with, but it isn't. It is rather the discovery that they engage in the sort of thinking that allows for religious belief. I would be just as disappointed in them if they believed that trees could talk or that chemtrails were a government plot.
