If you ask most people what county has the highest rate of SNAP benefit usage most people would say whatever county has the highest number of black people. I think that is the reason it has been so easy to cut SNAP benefit levels. Most people think SNAP benefits go mainly to black people. White people are portrayed as the victims who have their hard earned money taken away from them in order for it to be given to lazy black people. Maybe the perception of SNAP benefits would change if more people knew how many white people use SNAP benefits.

when you get down to it. It's disgusting that race should ever play a part in this. Even more so when one realizes just how much the perception of SNAP benefits would change, and what that tells us about where we are and how much farther we have to go...
