Why the Coke ad matters.

I know we folks here at DU like to pat ourselves on the backs for being more sophisticated than the rest of the country, but we often lose sight of why a simple thing like a commercial matters as a turning point, Coke has something that most other companies will never have. It's an American institution, for better or worse, with a 100% market penetration. It's as much an national symbol as the flag. And the right wing is melting down because, one by one, their 'merca' is disappearing. And, by the way, not only was it multi-lingual. It also showed a gay family.

Yes, Coke has done some awful things and they are a money-grubbing corporation. They could have easily done an ad with our servicemen and servicewomen in it. Same ultimate goal. This ad was far superior long-term. IMHO. YMMV.

It seemed to me to be very much an IN YOUR FACE, BIGOTS kind of ad. Good for them! (Admittedly, they also seem to have realized where their cookie crumbles--the face of America is only going to get more diverse--but still, as you said, they could have done some jingoistic flag-waving commercial and they chose not to, so I say good for them.)

Coke is an American staple that needs no advertisement.

They didn't have to do this to sell more product.

But if they did, who cares? Anyone that's outraged that a company would advertise its products is just as out of the loop as those on the right.

to "sell more products". Ads during the Superbowl are positional ads to reinforce the product in your mind. You would never see a national ad buy during Superbowl that would offer something like, "20% off this coming Friday" or something like that.

I think ads required to run the products in the market. We all know that its an American product, but few of them are they didn't aware of that with the help of ads people get the complete knowledge about the product and clear there doubts.

It drops their "human" mask and reveals what monsters they really are underneath it all. Don't be fooled by those who profess to be just economic conservatives or hide behind some conservative religious beliefs...look beneath the mask for the nasty thing that lives below.

I really. Enjoyed this commercial. The fact that the conservatives are upset is icing on the cake
