(37,276 posts)that I saw on MSNBC last night, he was playing with his nose with the left hand. It's a gesture where he sort of strokes the bottom of his nose.
Well, in nonverbal communication, when that is done with the left hand, it can mean lying. He was doing it while saying he knew nothing, among other statements.
It goes for the eyes and ears, too. See my lie? Hear my lie? Smell my lie? It is based on the idea that we know it is wrong to lie, and the tip-off is the touching. It's a signal from the subconscious.

(37,276 posts)I don't know if this n/v comm gesture has anything to do with brain hemispheres.
Theories based on left brain/right brain dominance have been re-thought, as the recent research shows that when the corpus collosum is cut, other areas of the brain pick up the function.
So in view of later research, it's probably not relevant to the gesture.

(25,078 posts)...in part to the surgery, no doubt, but it looks to me as if he has lost quite a bit more since the investigation - maybe instead of stress eating, the anxiety has diminished his appetite.
Anyway, here is an interesting physiological explanation, from Wikihow, for why people touch their noses when lying -
Look for nose touching and mouth covering. People tend to touch the nose more when lying and a great deal less when telling the truth.[1] This is perhaps due to a rush of adrenaline to the capillaries in the nose, causing the nose to itch.[2][3] A lying person is more likely to cover his or her mouth with a hand or to place the hands near the mouth, almost as if to cover the lies coming forth. If the mouth appears tense and the lips are pursed, this can indicate distress.[4][5]
