Some people thrive on it and feel they simply MUST share with whoever will listen. Here's a concept: It is possible to like the Coke ad without liking the product. Really, not that difficult.

That's not how the game is played.

(114,904 posts)great accolades for the ad. It wasn't brave. It was just marketing.
In any case. seems like you're just as outraged as the people you're calling out for being outraged.
gotta love the irony.

However, as you pretend to know better, I'll just watch you rationalize it further should you choose to continue.

(16,184 posts)That it was a Coke ad is what made it despicable and disingenuous.

(12,723 posts)Me, I get kind of resentful when companies assume I am an idiot with such obvious methods.
Do you think they really cared about global harmony in the 70's?
Do you think that Coke adds life?
Sad, sad sad.

One of the major reasons I enjoy reading poetry, and reading Edwardian fiction-- however, I'm quite sure the clever people maintain the pretense of more erudite reasons for enjoying it...

DU has plenty of outrage to go around.
It's always helpful to have gatekeepers to advise us which outrages are acceptable and which are not.

Seriously, TPP? Outrageous. Coke commercial? Not so much. It's all about putting things perspective.

(63,208 posts)was that Coke Inc. is a favorite DU target for condemnation due to its business and environmental practices, and there's usually a healthy dose of "who would drink that shit" thrown in for good measure.
But they buy 30 seconds of airtime and suddenly they're the darling of the progressive infosphere. It was the lightning-quick change in acrimony that threw me for a loop.

(62,521 posts)just because some smart marketing madison ave type comes up with a new way to sell coke that makes us all feel warm and fuzzy, I'm supposed to now support and like coke?
coke destroys water supplies in the US and in 3rd world nations. coke uses strong arm tactics to push their sugar water. coke supported death squads.
Need I go on?
Rainngirl
(243 posts)but won't touch the product. It's poison.

(24,096 posts)Coke likes money above all, they don't like unions and will kill people who do. They don't care about water supplies to communities as long as they can bottle their $$$.
That's the objection I and probably most others have.
It's a lie.
A very nice one, but a lie considering where it's coming from.

It brought us American Band Stand that traveled to those cities. You could get on the show if it came to your town. You had a chance to dance and meet some bands and Dick Clark.
It was part of Americana back then.
