50 Horrible Sources to get Your News

You often hear the term "liberal bias" when the radicals on the right try to demonize anyone who is willing to tell the truth. The real truth however, is that majority of the media (TV, radio, internet, print) is owned by big corporations who try to protect the radical conservative agenda. From big news outlets to small time blogs, there are many places that you want to avoid when trying to get good news and information. This is simply a counter to the claim by the radical right wing that all media is liberal. Here is a list, in no particular order, of 50 of the worst places you could go to get your news. A simple "copy and paste" into Google and you can see for yourself.

1. Fox News

2. Rush Limbaugh

3. Glenn Beck

and a lot of it wasn't too bad. But they really lost me during their Libya coverage (as did a lot of other folks). There was something about the pro-Qaddaffi and anti-intervention line that really set me off. I can't listen to them any more.

I saw some of your threads in the Guns group. You are a brave man.

if people like you didn't exist the NRA would create them - there is a constant need for a liberal gun-grabbing boogy man to stir the pot.

Not only are you are on the wrong side of history, you are actually working counter to your ideals (fantasies).

they smuggle coke over the border by the ton - now explain to me how you will stop them from smuggling all the guns they and anyone else would ever need.

You want to create a demand that drug cartels will have no problem what so ever filling. Think how easy it is to drive into a strange city and get drugs within a couple of hours. It will be that easy to get a gun.

You obviously need to read up on the cartels - drugs go North - cash and guns go South. I suggest you stop because you're clearly fantasizing here.

study Prohibition - Windsor Canada was renown as a rum-running port smuggling alcohol into America.

Organized crime exists to sell people what they want - you really think that criminals in America will not want guns?

I wouldn't be so thick-headed about it,
except it's not really that funny.

Not funny "ha ha" anyway.

Ironic, yes. The "Examiner" was Herb Caen's
old forum, until it got bought out by whoever
runs Journalists-R-Us (except when it comes to
paycheck-time.)

But what's in a name? The NY Times gave
us Judith Miller. PR firms source more and more
"news reports." Is it possible to find examples
of terrible reporting? Everywhere.

The most commonly syndicated yardstick
for truth/mendacity is too often the reverse.
(At least the local edition, here in WI.)

http://www.expressmilwaukee.com/article-17095-the-problem-with-politifact-wisconsin.html

The top 50 worst list in the
OP was only surprising in its sheer volume,
length, and putrid depth.

I used to come to D.U. to listen to other lone
voices, occasionally, howling through the fog.
(They were easy to find, at the right edge of the
home page, mostly. Now that's all been wiped,
in McDU3.)

I'm not amused.

It's not ha-ha funny. Ironic was maybe a better word. As a former newspaper worker and current freelancer battling against both "newsy" content mills and "useful" content mills, I find the move to give sites such as Examiner more credibility a dismaying one. So I post snarky comments when I see it being used as an authoritative source.

I used to do it on DU2, as well. But I think this new "broad, not deep" GD makes comments like mine more visible because things don't move nearly as fast as they did on DU2. I agree with your take on DU3.

So mobile phone displays will be better.

My home page still looks like a highway in Minnesota in the winter.

A strip of color down the middle.

One-third of the screen (left shoulder) pure white,
and one-third of the screen (right shoulder) MORE blinding white.

What an upgrade. (The reply I got indicated it must be a bug, the
display options change just didn't fix it.)

But NO links to people's Journal pages unless you spot them in a thread.

"Good Reads" replacing the best voices.

I say I "hope" that the mobile phones are the reason everything
changed because the alternative -- it was implemented in order to
more easily herd and control the masses -- is too hard to swallow.

I guess we'll know in a while. If D.U. ever turns in to Bizarro
World Freeperville, a big echo chamber with no dissent, with the
sole purpose of its existence being to Hate Goldstein and Hate
Oceania (oops, when they're not hating Eurasia), it'll be time
to leave.

A good number of slots on the list are not news organizations and don't purport to be. Some are lobbying groups/think tanks/policy institutes etc. A good number are also crappy blogs that relatively few people have heard of. When you reduce the list to real MSM outlets, you have a handful of dailies, a handful of magazines, a handful of radio hosts, and Fox News.

That's quite a ways from a 'majority of the media.' If you want to make a case that other MSM outlets not on this list promote conservatism, then do so. But this list itself represents a very small portion of the MSM at large.

The 'fair and balanced' meme has taken over.

Many of the sites say they are neutral meeting places for both liberals and conservatives to discuss the issues.

To them a liberal is anyone who has half a brain and doesn't support the right extreme agenda.

I suppose if you define liberal broadly enough it's kind of true in a semantic kind of way.

Not that they would understand what the word 'semantic' means.

Wow, talk about "mailing it in"... I'm going to list 50 conservative news outlets, personalities, organizations and websites. No analysis, explanation or discussion. I'm just going to take 4 minutes out of my day to write this.

I think I may add Robert Sobel to my list of "horrible sources", not because I disagree with anything he's written, but because it doesn't contain any actual "news". I did read a pretty good article about how * tricked us into an illegal war that cost us many lives, created the depression, and the evils of Medicare Part D, but seeing as he wrote them last fucking week, they're about as timely and informative as laying out the possible doomsday scenarios for Y2K.
