I just want to go on record to say Paypal sucks

And if it died tomorrow, I wouldn't miss it.

Eight day fight with them over my brother sending me money, them treating my Chinese wife absolute contempt and rudeness and getting lied to and run arounds about unlimiting my account.

In all this bullcrap with identity theft fears, I am tired of being protected from myself.

Fuck Paypal!

I had some hack my account and transfer over $300 out of my checking account.
I got the emails at 10:30pm and filed a claim with PayPal shortly after.

When I got in the morning they had already resolved my claim and put the money back in my account.

They did an amazing job of handling my claim.

because I cannot provide a utility bill because I live in FUCKING China and I don't get utility bills. I submit my ID verification and they tell me they need more information.

This is the run around I've gotten for eight days. Then they told me the limitation would be lifted, but still have refused to comply

I'm glad they aren't inept assclowns for you. For me, they are liars, thieves, charlatans and just fucking worthless.

Obviously not an issue with mainstream, reputable sellers, but I prefer to use Paypal for smaller, less well-known merchants and for buying things like software licenses.

I have never had a problem with Paypal.

i'm not thrilled with their execution of the concept, particularly their insistence that you "link" your paypal account and your bank account, which allows them to drain your bank account in the event of a payment dispute. thanks, paypal, but go fuck yourself.

For buyers/senders, Paypal works fairly well.

While Paypal likes to present itself as a pseudo-bank, it is not a bank and is not required to play by the bank rules/laws.

And I wonder what in the hell I've gotten myself into. I registered for a sports clinic in March and the website had a credit card option or a PayPal option. For whatever reason, the site would not take my credit card. My credit card is fine, I've been using it with no problem, so the cynic in me guesses that this is one way to make people sign up for PayPal. So I did, with the Bill Me Later option. I did so with a lot of reservations, but I wasn't going to let that stop me from going to this clinic.

So the jury is still out on it for me...but I can't say I'm thrilled about feeling forced to sign up for it. Once I pay for this, I'm opting out.

from me because when I tried to give choosing the credit card line link instead of the paypal link, it wouldn't accept my card because it didn't "recognize" it.

I'm thinking the credit card link was really a paypal link, and it didn't "recognize" my credit card because it is not the one that I used when I setup a paypal account many years ago. I haven't updated the paypal account for years because it was a pain in the ass -- I would update my credit card on it, and it would randomly revert to an expired card and cause problems. I got tired of having to re-update my credit card info, so gave it up.

of the others, I've never had a problem with Paypal in the 14 years I've been using it.

I know it's a major pain and inconvenience, but it's also their responsibility to ensure everyone's safety. Unfortunately, since you're in China, they're probably going to be somewhat suspicious.

Something odd happened to Mr Pipi about two months ago involving transactions with China. He had bought some relatively inexpensive item from China, and it arrived broken. When he contacted the vendor about replacement, they said no problem, they would just credit his bank account for the pittance it cost him. Less than $4.00 I think.

Well, his bank got suspicious and, figuring it might be some sort of bank account hacking, froze the account. Which sucked big time because it also meant that his pension checks were being rejected. Nothing could go in or come out until he verified the transaction.

What sucked even more was that, even though the bank is local, and could have called or sent him a message through the online message system, no....they sent him a letter, which took a WEEK, which meant that he was perilously close to having a bunch of overdrafts from like the day before this all started.

So, yeah...unfortunately, financial institutions see particular countries, like China or Russia, and a red flag pops up.

I was trying to open separate savings accounts at a bank last Thursday. I have been with for over 8 years. They required me to take the freeze off my credit score, cost $5, for them to open another account for MY money for almost no interest. Yesterday they needed a copy of my drivers license. It looks like I will have to call them again today.

They closed one day because of the storm last week. When I called them to see how things were doing they were asking me for an online application number I never got.

My local bank offers no interest .1 I believe and i have been with them for over 35 years. First they changed their "totally free senior account" and added beaucoup fees and when I moved over to their current "Totally Free Checking" they charge me $2 a month for a mailed statement. Cannot wait to find out what other free services are going to cost me.

excuses those assholes from responsibility or thought.

I told them point blank "don't tell me you're sorry to hear that. You don't care. When I hang up, you will forget this phone call ever happened."

And the best part is my credit card company had some sort of agreement with Paypal that said they would respect Paypal's dispute resolution process. That is all well and good, except for the fact I didn't have a Paypal account. Someone had just used my credit card number to open one.

It took more than a week and a half to initiate the charge-back for the fraudulent charges.
