The North Carolina Republican Party on Saturday slammed three-term GOP Sen. Richard Burr for his vote to convict former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial.
Burr, a reliable conservative, was one of 7 Republicans who crossed party lines to convict Trump of "incitement of insurrection" for the former president's role in the deadly January 6 Capitol riots.
This action drew the ire of party members across the state and also prompted an official rebuke from state party chairman Michael Whatley.
"North Carolina Republicans sent Senator Burr to the United States Senate to uphold the Constitution and his vote today to convict in a trial that he declared unconstitutional is shocking and disappointing," he said in a statement.

They represent all of North Carolina. 70% of us support Burr.
I'll be letting them know, too.
not that it will matter.
Their 43 senators represent 76 million fewer people.
This has to change.

I think South Carolina is a lost cause, but I have high hopes for North Carolina. I met many, many kind, caring, educated people when I lived there.

I'm 7 years in Western NC--unfortunately my rep is the other seditionist, Cawthorn. But Burr's decision and his statement make me (gulp) proud of him.
Lots of gen x new comers here, lots of democrats, too.
Already getting behind Jeff Jackson out of Charlotte for Senate in 2022, and hoping Mo Davis runs again.

(20,881 posts)Standing up for the Rule of Law and the Constitution no longer matters to the GOP. Neither are Principles, Values, Decency, Honor, etc.
The party platform now is IF YOU ARE NOT FOR TRUMP, then you are a RINO.
