http://www.statter911.com/2014/02/25/fight-leading-fatal-shooting-kansas-city-firefighter-police-officer-caught-video/Some of you may remember how quickly certain posters here condemned this officer. Now the video backs him. I wonder who will eat some crow?

(37,573 posts)"I am gonna intervene" and the guy filming says "no, don't". I'm not sure where his friends, or his bride, were, when this was happening.

(37,573 posts)not sure how they ended up in that position from the start. But from that starting position, he is trying to hand-cuff the guy. And the guy kinda tries to explain "if I give you my right hand, my face is gonna smack into the cement".
Without previous video, there is no way to know if the cop had ever tried to reason with the drunk firefighter. From the start of the video it is already a physical struggle. The guy taping even says "a very agressive stance this cop is taking".
Did he start the fight and then use his gun when he was getting his a$$ kicked? Did there have to be a fight?

(38,613 posts)It would be interesting to see what happened between that altercation and the one with the cop.

(37,573 posts)It looks like he might be hitting the cab driver, or slamming him on the cab, but he could be just flailing his arms around. I notice his bride grabs his arm, but he just keeps walking.
I guess if your new bride can't talk you down ...
The cop got beat pretty bad too, but I still lean towards the whole fight started because the cop was determined to physically subdue the guy. Did it have to escalate?
The guy was drunk and violent and needed to be arrested, aka: physically subdued.

Talking somebody down can defuse the violence. Wrestling somebody down just escalates it. By grabbing him you give him an opportunity to grab you.
Better to talk to him, stay away, and order him to the ground rather than wrestling with him. Almost anybody, when they are attacked, like with a knee to the head, is gonna fight back.

(1,115 posts)A violent drunk needs to sleep it off in jail, not receive a ticket so be can go assault another cab driver or someone else. Actions have consequences. Arrest is a foreseeable consequence of being a violent dunk. Death is a foreseeable consequence of smashing someone's head into concrete.

(34,214 posts)This is the first I heard of this case and I am very interested in the details, but I feel safe saying that if you pound a cops head into the sidewalk at least three times something bad is going to happen.

Thats when my husband got out of the taxi and began hitting the taxicab driver, Stephanie Bruno told police ... Throughout my entire contact with the suspect, I gave him numerous verbal commands to give me his hands and to stop resisting, Hubbard told detectives later. In my attempts to place handcuffs on the suspect, he continued to resist and we eventually went to the ground ...He then somehow flipped me over onto my back and the subject began punching me on the left side of my face and head, Hubbard told detectives ...
