BAM!!.........
The ad features rape survivor Nicole Anderson speaking out, I am speaking out because it really bothered me for Greg Abbott to partner with Ted Nugent knowing his history of being a predator. I was at home. I heard about it on the news. It made me feel like the it minimized the fact that Ted Nugent is a predator. I think that it sends the wrong message that he partnered up with this man that is very vocal about liking underage girls. Theres something wrong with that. Its not okay.
This ad is important on a couple of different levels. First, it is telling the truth about Ted Nugent. These types of ads should make Republican candidates think twice before they decide to cozy up to, and appear with, a self admitted sexual predator. Secondly, the use of Nugent as a campaign booster by Abbott is an escalation of the Republican war on women, and the men who support the rights of all women. Abbotts embrace of Nugent is sending the message to all voters that if Greg Abbott is elected governor, open season will continue on the rights of women.
It is good to see Ted Nugent getting called out for what he really is, but it also highlights the crucial issue in this election. Do the women and men of Texas think it is representative of their values to have the Republican candidate for governor getting cozy with a sexual predator? If Greg Abbott has no qualms about buddying up with Ted Nugent, hell also wont hesitate to accelerate the extremist anti-women agenda in the state of Texas.

(96,882 posts)...but that doesn't mean I appreciate bad tactics. She should already have progressives and political activists in her corner. Her focus needs to be low-information Democrats and a sprinkling of Independents. I suspect few of them know who Ted Niugest is, much less that he's a political flash point.

(3,152 posts)Nicole needs to drive home the evidence of Nuge's creepy sexual history first-- old newspaper headlines , pics of young victims, etc.
Don't assume the voters of Texas know these sordid details yet. They don't.
After first documenting his perversity; her testimony as a survivor would be much more powerful.

(26,060 posts)If Abbot or Nugent complain about it, that brings more attention to the ad which will then result in doing what you suggest - documentation of those charges - which also will bring more attention to the ad. If they don't say anything, Ms. Davis could just claim they know it's the truth and that's why they aren't fighting back. Either way, more attention to the ad which is the point.

(37,748 posts)And knowing Nugent's inability to keep his mouth shut, I'm pretty confident he'll respond to before the end of next week. And his response, even at its best, will put him (and by proxy, Abbott too) into a negative light.

(7,044 posts)Republicon's make a lot of nose-in-the-air, finger-wagging noise about 'family values' while in actual practice they are freaking deviants and put major degenerate kinked freaks like Nugent, Vitter and Limbaugh up for worship on their Republicon Pedestals. Sheesh. No wonder no one respects them.

Zambero
(9,977 posts)For years righties have carried on about their "superior values", and now people are finally getting a heads-up on what they actually consist of. Nugent's self-generated radioactivity given his personal history and recent comments will likely render him persona non grata with conservative politicians, who will not want to be featured in similar ads. The extreme right-wing base may tolerate or even laud this guy, but aside from that he's established himself as an ugly 600 pound gorilla who will not play well with those who decide election outcomes.
The_Commonist
(2,518 posts)I see nothing particularly BLISTERING there and I don't think anything will be OBLITERATED. It's a pretty good ad, but one must have decades of cultural information in order to understand it. I think to many, if not most people, it will just be "Wait, wut? Why is some woman who got raped complaining about Ted Somebody? And some politician? Whatevs..."
In order for a BLISTERING ad to OBLITERATE, it must leave no questions. There are too many questions here for it to be effective on anyone other than the choir.
Here's a list of political ads, some of which were BLISTERING and some of which helped OBLITERATE the competition:

From what I'm seeing, Ms. Davis is running a terrific campaign and the other guy just sucks. This ad certainly won't hurt, but it won't make any difference.
