So, as I'm waiting for my turn in the bathroom, I turn on the History Channel. They're doing "save our history" show ... and they're doing a "Here's a slice of history that is going to be lost forever if we don't restore it, but Congress decides this historic naval veteran ship is not worthy." (hinting that liberals hate anything military and won't fund saving something "historic" .
And I thought to myself ... this sounds like a perfect job for the 1%ers ... why don't THEY spend the millions of dollars funding the restoration, if they're so supportive of the military? (Ironically, a later segment was about an "oyster" craft, I forget the exact term, which has been repurposed from dredging up oysters to a recreational tour boat for those who can afford to blow money ... a.k.a. the "recreational rich" ...)

(35,392 posts)I just saw the "History Channel" one ... where aliens were part of the first thanksgiving ... and quite possibly ghosts ...
and I thought ... isn't the "History Channel" rather right-leaning these days???

(29,381 posts)it's not as if we are going to war for humanitarian reasons, although I know they want us all to believe that garbage. SO yeah, they should fund it themselves. And on top of it all, they should have to pay for the military budget itself.

(29,149 posts)I don't take the quoted sentence to imply that about liberals, though maybe something about context made it more clear. I tend to think liberals are generally more likely to want to invest money in preservation (of history, of nature, and so on).

(35,392 posts)you know, if it's military, liberals hate it. They stated that Congress won't fund restoration ... but they don't point out that, in this time of fiscal crisis, LOTS of expensive projects will not get funding. The "military" projects just get the emphasis because it pushes a certain agenda.
