Three children were rescued from the Atlantic ocean Tuesday off the coast of Daytona Beach in what can only be described in one of two ways. Either it is failed attempt by the childrens mother to drown the children and commit suicide at the same time, or, there was an medical emergency of some type that cause the mother to lose control of the vehicle and drive directly into the ocean.
One of the first men to get to the minivan Tim Tesseneer of Rutherford N.C, lends credence to this being an intentional act, as he says he heard the children screaming that their mother was trying to kill them.
The two in the back seat was crying, with their arms out saying Our mommys trying to kill us, please help, said Tesseneer.
Tesseneer also said that he say the woman make a hard turn going directly toward the ocean.
Taylor Quinn corroborates this story after witnessing the entire scenario play out from the balcony of her hotel room.
My friend pointed out that there was a car getting really close to the beach and actually started driving on the water, Quintin said. I saw a kid in the back waiving his arms around screaming, Help us! Help us! And the car kept going deeper.

(14,040 posts)Family members told police that 32-year-old Ebony Wilkerson, of South Carolina, was acting strange about two hours before driving the van into the ocean.
"She's talking about Jesus, that there's demons in the house," said her sister. "She's got the kids in the car with her."
Wilkerson's sister told police she didn't think her sister would harm her children, but that she was "acting odd."

(17,911 posts)I think we'll hear the doctors say something similar when they're ready to reveal a diagnosis. It's so sad, but I'm happy that those men were able to get to them in time. From what I saw on the news last night, there wasn't a minute to spare.
There will always be issues between the woman and the rest of the family, of course, but I hope that one day the family is reunited and some healing takes place. I wouldn't want to be in any of their places, but I hope that one day they're all able to see that this woman's problems are not her fault. I hope the woman herself is able to see it as well.

I live in the Daytona area and have been following this story closely - these children are SO lucky that these Samaritans were around and willing to get involved.

(106,582 posts)In fact, it's really bad writing. That opening sentence is about the children being rescued. So it's saying the rescue was either an failed attempt to drown the children, or it was a medical emergency. The rescue was actually a response to one of those possiblities.

Sure sounds like a mental health issue - 3 kids 10 or under, another on the way, abusive husband. Too bad help was not more readily available . . . or known to be so.
