When Denzel showed up as the Duke in "Much Ado About Nothing." But, he's kind of a good actor, and the adaptation was done well enough that it went over just fine.

5. The actress that plays Annie is extremely talented

Watch Beasts of the Southern Wild, it is one of the best movies in recent memory and that liitle girl carried the movie from beginning to end.

If people are upset about the trailer they should not be upset about the black people in the trailer, they should be upset about the lead white person. Cameron Diaz was awful in the trailer, if anyone ruins the movie it is going to be her.

18. Apparently the racists didn't bother to watch the trailer.

It appears the movie is based upon the original story of Annie. That seems to be where it stops. It's set in modern-day New York, not World War II New York. We have the replacement Daddy War Bucks, a black man running for mayor who is not a rich industrialist. This movie is no more a simple recast of the central character is an African-American actress than The Wiz was a simple recasting of Dorothy with an African-American actress.

But of course they didn't bother to watch the trailer, they just responded to the dog whistle of "oh my God Annie is black."


I guess it's a good thing there was no twitter when they made The Wiz. I don't really recall how the racists handled it back then but I bet it was no better than this.

From viewing the trailer, it looks like it's can be a rather fun, charming movie. I can't wait to see it.
