geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Sources like VOA and rt.com are junk, so is Fox. Corporate media is awful in many respects--especially when reporting on corporations and finance.
great thing about the internet is that it provides a wide diversity of sources

(62,325 posts)this country into war causing the deaths of untold numbers of human beings, torture, gives voice and respect to people like James O'Keefe without question, no voice to Progressive Dems, they will reach the same level of lack of credibility as the Corporate Media.
Until then, until at the very least the Fairness Doctrine is restored, the Corporate Media belongs where it is on the list of the world's free press.
I notice you did not list any sources we can trust, and yes, thank the gods for the internet where we do not need to bother with media that lies to the people on matters as important as the lives and deaths of our troops and of innocent people who have done nothing to us.

I am also angry at the dismantling of our Constitution by those implementing actual fascism, and I am angry that the blatant propaganda machine that has been deployed online to supplement the MSM is probably being paid for by our tax dollars, while Americans are discarded like so much garbage. These propaganda swarms are not communication. They are advertising and purposeful diversion, disinformation, and disruption.
States that build surveillance machines also build propaganda machines:

Seriously though, we've heard a lot about extremism recently, a nastier harsher atmosphere everywhere, more abuse and bother-boy behavior, less friendliness and tolerance and respect for opponents.
Alright, but what we never hear about extremism is its advantages!
Well. The biggest advantage of extremism is that it makes you feel GOOD because it provides you with enemies.
Let me explain. The great thing about having enemies is that you can pretend that all the badness in the whole world is in your enemies, and all the goodness in the whole world is in YOU.
Attractive, isn't it?
So, if you have a lot of anger and resentment in you anyway and you therefore enjoy abusing people, then you can pretend that you're only doing it because these enemies of yours are such very bad persons! And if it wasn't for them, you'd actually be good natured, and courteous, and rational all the time. So, if you want to FEEL GOOD, become an extremist!
Okay, now you have a choice.
If you join the hard left, they'll give you their list of authorized enemies. Almost all kinds of authorities, especially the police, city, Americans, judges, multi-national corporations, public schools, farriers, newspaper owners, fox hunters, generals, class traitors and of course, moderates.
Or if you'd rather be an extremist on the hard right, no problem, fine, you still get the lovely list of enemies, only they're different. Noisy minority groups, unions, Russia, weirdos, demonstrators, welfare sponges, meddlesome clergy, peaceniks, the BBC, strikers, social workers, Communists and of course, moderates. And upstart actors.
Now. Once you're armed with one of these super lists of enemies, you can be as nasty as you like and yet feel feel your behavior is morally justified.
So you can strut around, abusing people, and telling them you could eat them for breakfast and still think of yourself as a champion of the truth. A fighter for the greater good. And not the rather sad paranoid schizoid that you really are.

If we define an American fascist as one who in case of conflict puts money and power ahead of human beings, then there are undoubtedly several million fascists in the United States. There are probably several hundred thousand if we narrow the definition to include only those who in their search for money and power are ruthless and deceitful. Most American fascists are enthusiastically supporting the war effort... They are patriotic in time of war because it is to their interest to be so, but in time of peace they follow power and the dollar wherever they may lead.
-- Henry A. Wallace, FDR's second Vice President and the New Deal visionary before the corporate wing of the Democrat party refused to allow him to be FDR's VP for the next term and brought that corporate rat Harry Truman in. FDR almost turned down the democratic nomination because of that. "
In 1940, he was FDR's running mate and served as his vice president for four years. But in 1944, against the advice of the Democratic Party's progressives and liberals - including his wife Eleanor - FDR reluctantly allowed the party's conservative, pro-business and segregationist wing to replace Wallace with Sen. Harry Truman as the vice presidential candidate, a move that Stone calls the "greatest blunder" of Roosevelt's career. Had Wallace remained as vice president, he would have become president when FDR died in April 1945.
Wallace opposed the cold war, the arms race with the Soviet Union and racial segregation. He was a strong advocate of labor unions, national health insurance, public works jobs and women's equality. He would have been, without question, the most radical president in American history. He would have served out the remaining three years of FDR's fourth term and certainly would have sought to be elected on his own in 1948.

(35,568 posts)The song's theme is taken from the Spanish Civil War, and the idealism of Welsh volunteers who joined the left-wing International Brigades fighting for the Spanish Republic against Francisco Franco's military rebels. The song takes its name from a Republican poster of the time, displaying a photograph of a young child killed by the Nationalists under a sky of bombers with the stark warning "If you tolerate this, your children will be next" written at the bottom.

Various works on the Spanish Civil War were the inspiration for this song, and certain lyrics pertain directly to these works. For example, the line "If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists" is attributed to a remark made by a man who signed up with the Republican fighters to his brother in an interview years later. This was originally quoted in the book Miners Against Fascism by Hywel Francis. Another work George Orwell's first-hand account, "Homage to Catalonia". "I've walked Las Ramblas/but not with real intent" brings to mind the account in Orwell's book of fighting on the Ramblas, with the various factions seemingly getting nowhere, with the fighting and often a sense of camaraderie overriding the vaunted principles each side was supposed to be fighting for.
