Chris Christie and the 9/11 artifacts

I have taken a real slow burn to this, for two reasons: 1) No matter how many times Rachel Maddow covers the Chris Christie bridge scandal on her show, I am incapable of summoning the requisite number of smaller fucks required to comprise one full fuck to be given. They just aren't there; and, 2) While 9/11 is and will always be vividly with me, it is fair to say that the horrible swelling around my heart and soul has abated somewhat.

...so when I heard that Chris Christie gave away chunks of the 9/11 wreckage to political cronies he wanted endorsements from, my immediate reaction was double-barreled: It's Christie, so I don't care, and 9/11 was a long time ago.

But then the slow burn came on. This dog-ass piece of shit was peddling cemetery pieces for votes. I wonder how the NY firefighters feel about this, as the flash-burned DNA of their comrades may very well be imprinted on those twisted chunks of metal he handed out like Halloween candy. I wonder how the NYPD feels about it. I wonder how the first responders, who may very well have coughed and heaved the beginnings of their eventual deaths from the poisoned air onto those artifacts as they sifted the dust and rubble for bonemeal to identify for the families of the bereaved, feel about that.

I know how I feel about it. For a lot of us, 9/11 was one of the worst days of our lives, and came to be the gateway for many terrible days to come. For some, however, 9/11 is a corpse to be humped for all it is worth. George W. Bush humped it, Dick Cheney humped it, a whole slew of people in Congress jumped on the train...and now here's this fuck, still humping that corpse for votes.

What a scumbag.

ask them what they think about Crispy giving chunks of metal from the WTC to political allies. I want to see them try and justify this despicable act by Crispy. We need to see them twist in the wind - trying to answer this. I want every Repub elected official try to defend Crispy on this.

Even if he doesn't go down for the bridge closing or withholding of Sandy funds - he should go down for this irreverent, despicable gifting of remains of the worst tragedy this country has ever faced.

I live in Hoboken, fifty-three of those who died on 9/11 were Hoboken residents; more than any other town in New Jersey.

Bad enough that he gypped us out of our fair share of the Sandy relief money because our mayor didn't endorse him, he was also peddling remnants of the WTC to his supporters????

It makes me sick!!!!!

P.S. I couldn't remember the exact number of victims so I looked it up and found this nice article about the trees that the city planted to commemorate the victims (ginkgo bilobas). There is a tidbit that I was unaware of and found very interesting.

"But one historical fact about the ginkgo stands out as miraculous: A ginkgo was one of the few things left standing—and alive—following the 1945 nuclear blast in Hiroshima. It would bud without any deformities the following spring. The Japanese regard the tree as the “bearer of hope.” Still standing outside a temple, inscribed into its trunk are the words “no more Hiroshima” and prayers for peace."

This is a potentially explosive issue and the makers of conventional wisdom, while not ignoring it, are poking it with a ten foot pole. The braver amongst them might rule this "shameless" and then Christie will be fair game for the reporters who can't get ignored.

Whether Christie will also risk taking questions from a public audience, that wasn't picked, is another question. The possible scenarios are obvious and probably give Christie handlers the shakes.

They should be tearing him (and the mayors who took it) to shreds.
Still it's good to know exactly what 9/11 means to them - fucking trinkets.
