Andrij Parubiy is the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of the new Ukrainian government. Before the toppling of the Yanukovich regime, he was the commandant of the Euromaidan protest forces. In the past he belonged to different Ukrainian parties, mostly of the right and extreme right political spectrum. At the moment, he is a member of the Fatherland party.Parubiy has now been accused by former Ukrainian security chief Aleksandr Yakimenko of supporting the obscure mercenaries who killed several people with sniper shots, demonstrators as well as policemen:
First shots were fired from the Philharmonic building. Maidan Commandant Parubiy was in charge of the building. On February 20, this building was used as a base by the snipers and people with automatic weapons. They basically covered those who were attacking the demoralized policemen running in panic, hunted down like animals. They were followed by armed people with different kinds of weapons. At that point, somebody opened fire at those who attacked the police, and some of them were killed. All this fire was coming from the Philharmonic building.
According to the German Handelsblatt the very same Parubyi has now been mandated by the Ukranian government to lead the investigation into the sniper shootings.
Last week the new pro-west Ukranian government announced an investigation of the shootings by a parliamentary commission. The panel would be staffed with representatives of all fractions, a speaker said. International experts, Physicians, ballisticians and eyewitnesses would be interviewed. The head of the National Security Council, Andrej Parubiy, has been picked as the leader of the panel. (Translated from German)
The German government has declared that it will espouse an internationally surveyed investigation. How will it deal with the case of Andrej Parubiy?

(125 posts)Is the quote from Yakimenko correct or not?
Are you happy with Parubiy leading the investigation into the shootings? Curious.

(35,568 posts)I'm sure we can expect a thorough and honest investigation by our new *friends*.
Germany will just look the other way like it's been doing for months now.
soundsgreat
(125 posts)but I'm not sure if this is possible forever, considering the new developments.

(35,568 posts)I know there's a lot of outrage about this on the street because it's emboldening the neo-nazi groups there but money seems more important to them.

(125 posts)The events itselves are becoming clearer and clearer; about 20 mercenaries shooting from certain buildings, aiming at protesters and policemen liekwise. Only the identity of the mercenaries is in question.
For the Germans, this was certainly not the preferred way of regime change; so whenever Merkel has spoken with Putin in the last days, and whenever she told him off for Crimea, he likely responded with the Maidan snipers, and that he has even more evidence for foreign mercenaries. This gives him kind of a moral edge and immunity to pressure through sanctions.
So Merkel has a big problem, and even if she doesn't like to investigate the shootings, she might be forced to. I don't think you will see a picture with her and Yatsenyuk together soon. This man is a potato much too hot for her - my guess.

The sanctions are going to boomerang in a bad way. I'm a bit surprised Merkel is going along with this madness.
This just flashed across my screen.
The armed group has reportedly barricaded itself inside the local headquarters of Right Sector and was throwing sound and flash grenades. Police have been deployed at the scene.
Police are planning to storm the building, a correspondent at the scene told Russia-24 TV channel. According to the report, the group of radical fighters arrived in Kharkov several weeks ago.
The incident reportedly began after a Kharkov self-defence group patrolling the city square noticed a suspicious Volkswagen van and tried to stop it. It was the same van involved in a shooting back on March 8, when one of the anti-Maidan activists was wounded.

(68,868 posts)Very clever of you to smuggle the link to the Russian government's webpage via blue link.
Also not disclosed is that the person making the accusation is himself the prime suspect in organizing the shootings, and is a fugitive hiding inside .. . you guessed it ... Russia.

(62,325 posts)what do you regard as 'credible sources'? I've never been very impressed, no offense and I've told you this before, with your sources of info, I remember suggesting to you that you stop using right wing sources on OWS, as it was obvious you were repeating their propaganda against that movement.
So, I'm interested to know finally, what sources YOU use for news.
Btw, you never said what was inaccurate in the article. I've found nothing to contradict anything in the article so far.

(62,325 posts)unelected 'government' can possibly be trusted with such an investigation.
