Process your grief in your own time and own way but don't be surprised if in a few weeks/months another little fur baby shows up on your doorstep. They know who the good people are and they'll find you.

I see she was almost 17 years old - that's very old for a cat. It reflects well on the loving care you provided her - especially just before she set out for the Rainbow Bridge.

(16,091 posts)I'm Still Here
Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

(24,031 posts)...I read an interesting item that gave me pause. The thought expressed was that when we open our hearts to an animal, we do so knowing that, most likely, we will outlive that beloved furry family member.
I had never really thought about that, but it is certainly true. Even though I now am more aware of that perspective, I know it would never stop me from welcoming another kitty into the fold. They each provide so much joy.
Mousie obviously brought you great joy. I hope you get to experience that again when the time is right and a worthy successor finds you. When we have said goodbye to one and hello to another, that is how I think of them - successors. There are, of course, no replacements.

(81,437 posts)Damn. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry!!!! I'm remembering now when Ernie, our beloved and quirky tuxedo cat, went over.
Mousie will probably run into my Mousetrap up there. He was my cat from when I was nine years old and he was a rescue kitten. Lived to a ripe old age and then just disappeared - didn't come home one night. You know what that usually means. Mousetrap was a gorgeous silky black long-haired grand duke of a cat - with these big sexy tufts of fur between each of his toes. Had to have Persian or some such in his bloodlines somewhere. As a kitten his tail was as bald as a rat's tail. But when his fur grew in he had a huge, rich, fern-like, luxuriously furry tail that reminded me of the fans with which slaves would fan the Pharaoh. Haughty and elegant, and a world-class mouser. Maybe the two of them will compare their naming stories? Ours came from a joke book for kids - "spell 'mousetrap' in three letters. Answer: C-A-T." STILL MISS THAT CAT!!!!
Heck, I miss 'em all when they leave me!
Hopefully, Mousie will meet Ernie, Mousetrap, Tasha, Rao, and so many others who've left us behind and made the jump to light speed.
