(9,565 posts)We don't even want to be enemies with Russia, but Putin needs to be kept in check and smaller countries need to know they won't be run over by someone like Russia. If we don't keep Russia (read: Putin) in check, several countries may ramp up weapons acquisition and military fortification. Additionally, other countries will be less likely to give up their nukes the way Ukraine did if they feel it will give leave them vulnerable militarily.

(9,565 posts)to intervene. Not having the ability to intervene for years doesn't mean Russia hasn't had the desire. Now that Russia has rebuilt their military, we're beginning to see a different foreign policy.

Not for lack of desire, just it'd cost too much. US is a capitalist country, ya know. Spreadsheets rool, commies drool. Something like that.
We'd do sanctions. Kinda like what we're doing now. See Iran.
