Discrimination based on sexual orientation makes me nuts. Any attempt by a bunch of old white men, and a few of their female enablers, to limit a woman's reproductive freedom really pisses me off. The systematic voter suppression laws being advanced in this country in defense of the non-existent problem of "voter fraud" make me want to hit something. And the fact that I have neglected to highlight someone else's pet peeve, and that they will complain about said omission, also gives me a case of the red ass.
But I am still not angry that I voted ... twice ... for Barack Obama. Has he been everything I hoped for? Nope. Is he better, by an infinite factor, than anything that ran against him in 2008 and 2012? Yup.
And so it goes.

(114,615 posts)I keep getting royally pissed off at the same stuff.
Mostly I'm pissed off at the way this country has mastered wealth creation but refused to tackle the fair and equitable distribution of that wealth with the people who produced it.

(3,381 posts)in the old man range and find myself furious at some of the things I see happening to our country. You pegged all my major irks and I tend to get rabid about them at times. I've probably reached the exalted "curmudgeon" stage of life.
I did have to laugh at the phrase "case of the red ass". I haven't heard that used since a stint in service back in the early 50's. Learned a lot of very colorful additions to my vocabulary during that year.

(90,017 posts)Glad you're here! And I'd say "same here" for myself. Lots of snow on the ol' roof here, as they say. I'm old enough to remember the jump rope rhymes that kids on the playground were sing-songing during the Kennedy/Nixon election. "Kennedy, Kennedy, gets our vote. We'll throw Nixon over boat
" and vice versa.
And I still get SUPER MAD over the same things listed in 11Bravo's OP. I am so pissed off about how many of the idiots have overrun our political structures and are trying to bring down everything we built up.

(740 posts)does one become "old" ? i was a grandfather at 38.

(23,156 posts)You are a very young grandfather. That's not good or bad, it's just the way your life has worked out. But you're not old. Not at 38.
Grandfatherhood, no matter at what age, gives you a certain generational perspective. At least I think it does. I don't (yet at least) have grandchildren. I had my second kid when I was 38. So I have a different generational perspective.
I'm now 65, beginning to think of myself not as old, but definitely a senior citizen. I'm leaving work next month, will go on Medicare (hooray!) and hope to have a quiet retirement. I also expect to live many more years as I have plans for my 97th birthday. There's going to be a total eclipse of the sun in August of 2045 that I don't intend to miss, in case any of you reading this are interested.
Anyway, my real point, and I think the point of the OP is that years give us a certain perspective on life, because we can see changes and differences -- or lack of changes -- that help us understand things. Heck, anyone who's at least 21 can see various changes. The more the years accumulate, the more we know. It's an accumulation of knowledge and experiences. Sometimes wisdom results, but not always.

(4,840 posts)"old man" and "getting angry" are some kind of contradiction of terms? I want to live there too.
