So President Obama will be calling for an end to the collection of everyone's phone records.
Some of Those On The Left will attempt to take credit for this. They'll say "Oooh, but the President's continually defended this practice! Only because we whined and complained like spoiled toddlers did he stop this violation of our Constitution! Yay, we win!!!"
No, you didn't win.
Look, people: President Obama never, ever defended spying on every American before it was made public by Comrade Eddie Snowden. Not once.
It was all Moscow Eddie's fault that the President had to defend this practice, that he never, ever wanted to defend in public. Having to defend this plan in public has been very, very troubling for him. So the President will simply be doing what he's always wanted to do: end the program, as far as the public knows.
So Liberals: suck it up. You had nothing whatsoever to do with this and it's not a victory. You are still a miniscule and puny fringe group, incapable of changing anything. Other than, of course, ruining Democratic election chances by your vast numbers staying away from the polls in a humongous, nation-crushing pout.
So you get nothing. No credit. None.
Sweet dreams,
Third-Way Manny

(6,145 posts)We need to look into the fine print of President Obama's proposal but it seems like a win for those who have opposed the legalized surveillance state we currently live in.
No F*ckin way it would have happened without Ed (unfriendly to his neighbors) Snowden and now it's time to recognize he pointed out a wrong in the system. Give the man an immunity deal and bring him home.

(65,616 posts)Moscow Eddie just gave Russia's dictator the ability to sidestep all our human intel! Liberals only complained about the NSA spying on everyone, we didn't want him to give our secrets away to the enemy! That was just WRONG.
I guess that doesn't make it into your post...might be fair and balanced.

(116,464 posts)opinion on "Comrade Eddie Snowden," aka "Moscow Eddie":
Susan Page
NEW YORK -- Former president Jimmy Carter defended the disclosures by fugitive NSA contractor Edward Snowden on Monday, saying revelations that U.S. intelligence agencies were collecting meta-data of Americans' phone calls and e-mails have been "probably constructive in the long run."
<...>
Does he view Snowden, now granted asylum in Russia, as a hero or a traitor?
"There's no doubt that he broke the law and that he would be susceptible, in my opinion, to prosecution if he came back here under the law," he said. "But I think it's good for Americans to know the kinds of things that have been revealed by him and others -- and that is that since 9/11 we've gone too far in intrusion on the privacy that Americans ought to enjoy as a right of citizenship."
Carter cautioned that he didn't have information about whether some of the disclosures "may have hurt our security or individuals that work in security," adding, "If I knew that, then I may feel differently." And he said Snowden shouldn't be immune from prosecution for his actions.
"I think it's inevitable that he should be prosecuted and I think he would be prosecuted" if he returned to the United States, the former president said. "But I don't think he ought to be executed as a traitor or any kind of extreme punishment like that."

That term was used by freepers against us, just like "libtard".
In fact I think they were the freepers' retaliation for DUers calling them "wingnuts" and "freeptards".
Both terms of course have gone out of fashion here, especially since the rise of the Tea Party.

Conservative, who is dressed as a detective, asks Moonbat questions about politics. Moonbat gives reasonable answers, which the Conservative turns into illogical statements about liberals.
