but it becomes more plain each and every day it was a total shift in focus away from what was important to what was merely trendy and easily funded. Given the free flow of "post-9/11" cash, it looks like the stewards of our national intelligence services decided empire building and petty politics were important than the reasons we actually HAVE an intelligence service.

I guess those fancy starshippy control rooms with whooshy doors and the ability to "google" intelligence from your comfy captain's chair built with a free flow of cash was appealing compared to actual intelligence work which is hard and may not give some payoff that looks good on a powerpoint graph.

Oh well, we are paying for that now and the excuses for being totally unprepared are now flowing freely.
