(13,485 posts)We should make it a priority to make their money In Politics Is Over-Rated...
If money is the game the 1% want to play, we need to make it a useless endeavor. Now it's money vs. people... I say people have to make the power of money illegitimate. What do they buy? Ads? lies? How much money does it take to make Americans see the triteness in the over flooding ad machine? I think that has already begun. Then what? Buy more politicians? That doesn't quite go over well any more. There's only so much they can spend and have a useful effect.
If money is their game, let's use it against them. We must make their money pure futility. Let them dump it down the toilet for all we're concerned. Make money meaningless and fill that void with reason and human value.

(13,485 posts)But since it's there for the moment, wouldn't undermining it's usefulness be taking it out of politics? It's a long shot, but maybe not. Finding radical ways to assess the problem, maybe seek the Achilles heel in over bloated money posturing could help make the usefulness of money in politics less..... useful.
I'm just saying for now, here we are. Let's use it against them. In the process we take back the lost ground and get the protections against political cronyism back in force.

(25,699 posts)It doesn't matter that "buying politicians doesn't go over well." Doesn't go over well with who? The politicians like it. The fat cats love it. And the police get paid either way so might as well side with those guys anyway, right?
We can vote and vote and vote and all that happens is that whoever we vote for is going to sell out; those idealistic few who don't will get shut out by the ones who do.
And this is assuming we can even get access to such individuals.
You say "make money useless" well, good for you, let's make the sun rise the other way for a few days of the week while we're at it.

(1,151 posts)The parties will continue to manipulate voters until voters stop being stupid.
More direct money may make the party's job easier but with or without that money they will
* keep primary challenges to a minimum
* keep 3rd parties from getting anywhere
* convince general election voters that they are the lesser evil
The easiest thing for us is to skip the primary and show up to the general election and pick whatever letter we believe to be the lesser evil (R or D). We don't need to know issues or candidates. We don't need to pay any attention to what's going on in the world except for 1 day every 2 or 4 years. The parties know that and with or without money they will take advantage of it.
