Governor Moonbeam - Headed for a Landslide Win in California

Brown Headed for a Landslide Win in California
A new Field poll in California shows Gov. Jerry Brown (D) with an all-time high approval rate of 59%.

In the June jungle primary -- with candidates from all parties competing together -- Brown leads with 57%, followed by Tim Donnelly (R) at 17% and all other candidates in the low single digits.

Nicknames, like politics, can often be childish, but awfully sticky, too. California Republicans have already taken to bringing up Mr. Brown’s Moonbeam past, suggesting in a recent news release that “his unpredictable nature” makes him unsuitable for the governorship.

Mr. Brown — not surprisingly — sees it differently, saying the nickname shows he’s “creative and not hidebound to the status quo.”

“Moonbeam also stands for not being the insider,” said Mr. Brown. “But standing apart and marching to my own drummer. And I’ve done that.”

In the jungle primary system, if Brown gets 50% plus one in June, he's re-elected. The race is over. No top of the ticket for November. Which could depress turnout even more than usual in a midterm year. Which helps repukes in congressional, legislative and local races.

As to "Moonbeam", it started when Brown (Release 1.0) proposed that California acquire what would then have been a state-of-the-art satellite communication system, so as to save on travel costs to and from Sacramento. Today, we would call that "teleconferencing", and it's commonplace. So he was simply ahead of his time.

Brown reasoned landlines communication could be disrupted during natural disasters. One of his out-of-the-box ideas was to bounce a signal off the moon (Moonbeam), only problem was the moon wasn't always up there when you needed it.

Between satellites and microwave towers, one could make the argument Jerry Brown could be called the Godfather of cellular telephones.

Though I don't recognize most of their names. Look up California gubernatorial election, 2014 in Wikipedia (yes I know) for the full list of candidates.
