Through the power of social media, a Scottsbluff parakeet has returned home after surviving a week in frigid temperatures.

On March 29, Christa Pelster posted a few pictures and a message on Facebook stating that her beloved parakeet, Flip, had escaped. Pelster said her daughter went outside to pick up her scooter, leaving the door open and the bird flew out the open door.

The bird began to fly north toward Scottsbluff High School. Pelster tried to follow it that evening, but to no avail. She posted on a Scottsbluff garage sale Facebook site for people to keep their eyes open and keep looking up.

“My neighbors were even looking around. People I didn't even know started to look, too,” she said.
