(8,549 posts)If people had the option to prevent large images and embedded videos from being displayed (except as links) as they browse DU3, there wouldn't be any need to rely on others to be courteous enough to post bandwidth warnings.

I really think broadband internet should be a public good with gigabit internet the standard by now.

(8,028 posts)...and I still run into trouble with some of the vanity video threads in the lounge. I know to be careful about opening some music video threads and other graphics-heavy threads at DU.
I think there should be a bandwidth warning on certain threads.

I often turn off graphics in Firefox so threads will load faster. But then I can't see the cartoons when they finally load.

For several reasons, some folks still use dial-up service. We should respect that.
