President Obama Tears Apart CNN’s Lazy and Biased Press Conference Question

President Obama Tears Apart CNN’s Lazy and Biased Press Conference Question

By: Jason Easleymore from Jason Easley
Thursday, April, 24th, 2014, 9:24 am

..................

During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Abe of Japan, CNN embarrassed themselves with a biased question that President Obama dismantled with facts.[....]

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, Jim, let me unpack that question because there’s a whole bunch of assumptions in there, some of which I don’t agree with. First of all, the treaty between the United States and Japan preceded my birth, so obviously, this isn’t a “red line” that I’m drawing; it is the standard interpretation over multiple administrations of the terms of the alliance, which is that territories under the administration of Japan are covered under the treaty. There’s no shift in position. There’s no “red line” that’s been drawn. We’re simply applying the treaty.[....]

With respect to the other issues that you raise, our position, Jim,
the United States’ position is that countries should abide by
international law[....] Now, the implication of the question I think is, is
that each and every time a country violates one of those norms the United States should go to war, or stand prepared to engage militarily, and if it doesn’t then somehow we’re not serious about those norms.

Well, that’s not the case. Right now, we have 87 percent of serious chemical weapons have already been removed from Syria. There’s about 13 percent left. That’s as a consequence of U.S. leadership. And the fact that we didn’t have to fire a missile to get that accomplished is not a failure to uphold those international norms, it’s a success. It’s not a complete success until we have the last 13 percent out.

Most of our media should.

Few of our Presidents have been stupid, even if their smarts in some cases consist mostly of knowing whose advice to follow. Making huge mistakes on the campaign trail would eliminate them before they won the Oval Office. Ask Governor Rick "What's the the other two things? Oops." Perry or Governor Mitt "43% of Americans are takers" Romney.

Media most definitely should spar with our Presidents. They owe us that in return for First Amendment protection. But, they are too damned lazy and greedy to fulfill the role the First Amendment envisioned for them.

the governor could remember two of the three government agencies that had to go. Governor Romney said 47% not 43% of americans don't pay federal income taxes.

Because I know he forgot more than just one agency name. On one instance the other Republican candidates on the platform even started naming some agencies for him and he still couldn't come up with all of them.

I'll take your word on 43% versus 47%. Thanks.

I pretty much forgot about CNN stepping up its game long ago. I think most viewers did, too. It's funny how many places keep CNN on, though.

But, my statement applies mass media in general. They've turned into glorified gossip columns. He said, he said.

of CNN's audience, CNN lurched right in an attempt to get them back. What they did was to alienate other viewers in the center. Whoever is making decisions at the top of CNN has no clue. They still can't figure out that the demographic that went to Fox is gone forever, and that demographic's advanced age indicates Fox will be losing them soon.
There's a real need for honest journalism that will be filled when someone with the funds realizes how to put something on the market that large numbers will attach to.
In the meantime, Fox just provides cover for other more subtle propaganda disguised as news.

but, just as the esteemed Mr. Limbaugh wanted and wants, they want "the question". It's not really about solutions, in fact solutions are bad things, because "the question" is what is used to stir "the issue", "the debate", "the anger", "the ratings" and hence ad revenue. I figured out Limbaugh after listening to parts of a couple of shows when he first was available in the radio market where I live. The term muckraking came to mind then and it applies now.

For showing the world Americans can still elect an intelligent president. We've had to endure so much shame from the last administration and still do. Leave it to an American reporter to demonstrate both Americas, the stupid and the thoughtful. Bet ole 'Jim' wishes he was never called on. Even the prime minister gave it to him.

An astonishing reaction to a good question from CNN by DUers. Senkaku islands, Diaoyu islands, Diaoyutai islands, Pinnacle islands; call them what you will, I call them a nice handy powder keg ready to be used by the United States at their pleasure. At about the same time Japan was taking the Diaoyu islands they were taking Taiwan (Formosa) and Korea. Is it hard to figure out why the United States “gave” the islands back to Japan in 1972? My firsts vote for a President of the United States was for Harry S Truman, but I’ve only appeared on this two or three times so I’m of no account, and to my mind two or three times here is enough---Adios.

I tend to be a bit pro-Chinese being in China and being married to a Chinese national, but this is just over the fucking top.

BTW, Japan took Korea and Taiwan in 1898 in a war that they started. Senkaku has been internationally recognized as Japanese territory since before WW2.
