Republicans Blast Nevada Rancher for Failing to Use Commonly Accepted Racial Code Words - Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — Republican politicians blasted the Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy on Thursday for making flagrantly racist remarks instead of employing the subtler racial code words the G.O.P. has been using for decades.
“We Republicans have worked long and hard to develop insidious racial code words like ‘entitlement society’ and ‘personal responsibility,’?” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky). “There is no excuse for offensive racist comments like the ones Cliven Bundy made when there are so many subtler ways of making the exact same point.”
Fox News also blasted the rancher, saying in a statement, “Cliven Bundy’s outrageous racist remarks undermine decades of progress in our effort to come up with cleverer ways of saying the same thing.”

that it's not satire if it's exactly true to its natural form. Satire requires ridicule and an exaggeration. If it really doesn't exaggerate and is not actually a ridicule but merely a mirror image of what the person says, is it satire? I say not really.

The Onion Calls it Quits

by The Troubadour

For nearly 25 years, The Onion has been satirizing American politics and society with unparalleled brilliance. However, the fake news publication – or "America's Finest News Source" – has sadly and stunningly announced that it will cease operations in 2014.

In a press release, The Onion's Editor-In-Chief, Will Tracy, explained what led to the publication's difficult decision:

The Onion has always been recognized as a first-rate satirical publication, making fun of all that is absurd in our socio-political world. However, in today's contemporary political environment, our brand has simply gotten muddled. And I can say with clarity that today's GOP is fully to blame.

It used to be that political satire was easy. All one had to do was find the absurd buried beneath the surface of a given story and employ satire to highlight that absurdity. To shine a light on it.

Now? Now you have headlines showing up in mainstream publications like "Kansas Republican Actually Opposes the Poor Buying More Food" and "Conservatives Less Likely to Buy Energy Efficient Bulbs if Labeled as Environmentally Friendly."

The absurdity of conservatives in this country has completely destroyed our business. Republicans have ruined us. Period.

New readers to The Onion can't tell anymore that we are a satirical publication. And established readers have been leaving our pages, finding greater absurdity at places like CNN and USA Today.

Such as their article Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over' originally printed Jan. 17 2001 - http://www.theonion.com/articles/bush-our-long-national-nightmare-of-peace-and-pros,464/ . It's painful how true that one was.

All he was doing was asking a question. It's gotten to the point in this country that if you even ask whether negroes were better off under slavery, i.e. they had something to do, like picking cotton, all of a sudden you're a racist.

the powerful and elite in society.

Right-wing "comedy" consists of mocking the poor, the disenfranchised, the weak. Racist jokes ... and fart jokes.

Remember Fox's attempt at a RW version of the "Daily Show"? It lasted one or two episodes. 'Cause the unintentional comedy of Fox anchors being serious was much funnier. After that show debuted, I remember Olbermann responded by just playing a bunch of clips of Hannity, O'Reilly, etc with a laugh track.

Often times Borowitz' satire just sounds too real (unlike the absurdity of the Onion).

But this one is clever, because conservatives won't admit to using code words, but they are dog whistling all the time.
