but it usually is NOT everyone's concern.

But when I write about poverty, my concern is NOT just about white poverty or male poverty or straight poverty. There's no gender or racial or sexual preference test for food stamps or liheap or unemployment insurance or the earned income credit - although there sort of is for tanf.

And when I write about the benefits of progressive taxes there's no race, gender or sexual preference test for the tax rates, only an income one.

I am not sure I advocate anything which is particularly straight white male. Except of course - in defense. When it is promulgated that non-whites, non-males and non-straights are oppressed (or discriminated against, which no doubt almost all are) and implied that thereby all straight white males are OPPRESSORS (or privileged) then I do argue for my own perspective on that.

The questions are, to me, are we gonna help black people, or attack white people? Are we gonna help women, or attack men? Are we gonna help GLBT or attack straights?

Some might argue, perhaps (I am not saying that anybody here HAS) that the BEST way (or maybe just a very good way) to help blacks, IS by attacking whites. But if that's how they feel, then they shouldn't blame me for defending myself in a fight that I did not start.

Another question, do you want allies, or enemies?

Yes, as painful as this may be ... the status quo system that has you in a cellar does favor you over Black folks, also, in a cellar ... and in some case over me, though I am far from living in a cellar (e.g., After 13 years of residence, I still get stopped when driving in my 47 home sub-division, by the town police force of 60 officers stationed less than a mile from me home; or, how about, I, still, with a Graduate Degree and a Professional Degree, and 30+ years of progressively responsible positions in my field, and impeccable references from nationally recognized figures in my field, have to work career networks to get initial interviews (my given name lends itself to a presumed racial grouping), and I am looked upon as an affirmative action hire by co-workers (and unsuccessful candidates) that see my skin and see the job, but have know idea of my qualifications.)

Being in/of a Privileged group does not mean everything will be roses for you; but it does mean that, most of the crap you face in life, is not for being of your racial grouping.
