Every once in a while, I like to post a tribute to the one DUer who welcomed me...

...at the beginning of my DU experience (back in 2002) and made DU an awesome place for all.

My old, dear friend, NewYawker99. Where ever you are, you are missed and honored. Your legacy is DU itself.

8. There's always one person in the neighborhood that everyone likes...

...because that person liked and treated EVERYONE the same. A common denominator amongst us quarreling children. THAT was Roni (NYer99).

9. Exactly! Wish she was back. She definitely kept the spirits up

around here and we really needed that in the Bush years!

18. I think about NewYawker99 too! All the time!

I try in my own feeble way to welcome people here and there, but always thinking about her when I do that! I feel like in the few times I get to it, it's a small way to honor her. She NEVER seemed to fail! She always seemed to find every one of the new arrivals here and greet them personally! NOBODY was overlooked, at least as far as I could see. Really a thoughtful gesture. Genuinely lovely! I just always appreciated that she did that. Great point, livetohike! It has indeed encouraged us to bind together as a family! An internet family, if you will. That would be us, warts 'n' all! Nice people like her make the warts harder to notice.

6. She cannot be replaced. All we can do is honor her by being civil.

She was ALWAYS civil!

7. Yep. I think that is the most important thing we can do.

Thanks for starting this thread, Cooley Hurd. We need to be reminded from time to time what really, really good really is.

11. I should have done the same for my 30,000th post...

You're very thoughtful.

Remember that NewYawker99 also used to celebrate milestone posts.

12. I hope she is doing well. I thought I read years ago that she was

not in good health.

She welcomed me when I joined nearly 10 years ago and it meant so much to me for such a simple gesture.

13. She found us early birds, every one who came to share and learn. .

They were our mentors; they helped us navigate our way around here and NewYawker99 and others will never be forgotten.

17. It resonated for a period long after she stopped posting...

...sadly, it seems we've passed that period and our community is suffering because of it.
