3 died just minutes ago in Ala.tornadoes.

Northern part of state.
F-4 to F-5 category.
The storms come in at right angles to state, so hit a lot of territory.

WHNT is reporting three simultaneous tornadoes currently traveling the same path.

More here:http://blog.al.com/breaking/2014/04/live_weather_updates_as_storms.html#incart_graystrip

My area is forecast to get some of those storms later tonight.
the wind chimes are going off pretty strongly outside.......

And if needed, I will beat the dog to that door.
More importantly, I tend to stay up and watch the radar warnings at night..safety being worth lost sleep, I figure.

which is about the worst you can have. It's what devastated the area around Oklahoma City (Moore, specifically) last spring. Please hunker down and stay as safe as possible.

It's still blowing in NM and has been since Thursday. This is the strongest storm system I've seen in a very long time.

That nuke waste plant in New Mexico which has been smoking nuke waste for two months now, needs airing out. Here's a DU link to some of the story:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4858449

My prayers are with those affected in both cases. It is sad to read the news of people's deaths and all the lives so awfully altered.

it's a storage facility in a defunct salt mine. The ceilings were supposed to fall in on the waste and keep it safely stored for a few thousand years.

They also sold it by telling us it would be for low level waste, contaminated clothing and the like. They lied, of course. We knew they were lying.

If i could control the winds, i'd make sure the winds blew from Banff to Brownsville, for a few weeks at least.

The east has been suffering from high particulate matter for a while now. We haven't had a good blow for weeks and most of our air has been recirculating in the midwest. This system is the first hard blow of spring. Until yesterday there very few storm related deaths from these type weather systems.

Link to air pollution site:

http://alg.umbc.edu/usaq/

It is from a university near Baltimore.

our home is in one of the least tornado prone areas of the state.

Still, breaks our hearts when folks elsewhere are being harmed and killed by the storm outbreaks.

We are due east of there, so it serves as an early warning area.

If memory serves, I think I know where you are. I would be really concerned about family and friends further north, too.

like a designated school or something?

Back in Wisconsin our little grade school actually had a basement - small - but we practiced drills. You don't have much time in a tornado.

Stay safe sister.

MS AL and now TN has been hit hard today, and it keeps on coming. They have now entered TN and confirmed touchdown in Lincoln County (southern TN). Not close to me so I am safe but lots of people in the south are not tonight.

When he tries to get his 100 # quivering body in my lap, I know it is getting bad outside.

Murphy cat slithers quickly under the bed around those times.
Right now they are peacefully dozing at my feet..we are the picture of family contentment.
