If We Truly Had Small Govt. Disaster Recovery Would Look Like Haiti Recovery After Its Quake

Lets just do what conservatives, libertarians and Ayn Randers want and institute small government in the US and see what happens. Disaster recovery would look like what happened in Haiti after its disaster. Or look at New Orleans. There are still many parts of the effected area that have not recovered hardly at all.

So we let charities do all the work because that is where many present government services would reside under a libertarian plan. So who responds when your local Red Cross, churches or other nonprofits are destroyed in a disaster. Who is going to respond when most of your police departments, sheriff's departments and fire houses are destroyed or disabled when everything is turned to tooth picks, is underwater or completely gone.

We have to remember that under the libertarian conservative philosophy every government service that can be privatized should be turned over to a business or non profit organization or even the churches and other charities. The only way to respond to a disaster under their plan would be to call in the National Guard or initiate martial law because only the military would be available to response.

The extreme conservative idea is that government run and fund only national security and military and that is it.

Under their scheme locals would be faced with digging themselves out and using the debris salvage to rebuild. It would take years to rebuild where it takes weeks or months to restore services now.

Do we need to go back to the old days where fire departments or first responders took action only if you were "covered" under some private or business plan. Would we have to go back to the day when signs told them if you were covered by State Farm, Nationwide or some other company.

It is hard to believe why so many people believe this "small government" nonsense. What is even more interesting is that some of the most hard hit disaster areas of the country are the most resistant to government. The level of denial and ignorance is just too hard to understand.

when disaster happens to them.

They only want to cut the parts of the government that they don't need, like disaster assistance for everyone else.

They also want to cut Social Security and Medicaid for everyone but them.
