Not here. Brrr.
Just popped in to say hello to everyone.
I've spent the past month in a self-imposed news blackout. No news at all. When someone starts to bring up something in the news, I say "don't tell me. I don't want to know."
And that, I find, is true.
I don't miss news or politics. It's just so predictable and circular. So I've decided to keep on with it.
I love DU and all the bright, informed, opinionated folks who populate it, and I'll still be posting from time to time, but largely not in GD. The cooking group and other groups hold more appeal for me.
I'm grateful that there are people here who are keeping on with news and politics and are dedicated to changing things.
I didn't imagine when I took some time off that I'd find that my interest in politics would wane so much, but it has. And change is good.

(11,717 posts)Even here, in Chicago, flowers are starting to bloom, the ice is all gone from Lake Michigan, and today, I even saw mushrooms growing. It may not be warm or sunny, but it is definitely spring.
I envy your ability to tune out politics. I can never quite manage that.

(40,656 posts)and am sitting out here in the sunshine. It is supposed to be in the 60's this weekend. Global warming actually takes the joy out of me saying this.

(6,496 posts)I'm really hoping all these april showers gives us some great may flowers.
But mostly I'd like to just be outside for a bit without the jackets and all.

(5,141 posts)Part my break with news was voluntary, the other part of the equation is I just opened my own restaurant and I don't have any time. I scan the thread titles and that's about it.
I started last year by (mostly) giving up watching MSNBC. Slowly I gave up all my other sources.
I don't miss it either. And you're dead on - - it IS predictable and circular.
And my stress level? Muuuuuuuuch lower. And THAT is even with starting my own business!!!!
Cheers!

(2,812 posts)and high five with it.
There is just so much more to life than politics, yet politics and the argumentation that goes with it can be addicting.
But don't we get involved in politics, in part, so we and others have the ability, freedom and time to do other things?
It's good to step back and do those "other things".
Personally, I'm very happy it is baseball season.
Oh...the weather on the SF north peninsula is beautiful right now.

(46,436 posts)At least here in Anchorage. The sun is shining, it's about 50 degrees, grass is greening up, trees have buds, perennials are popping up, and I've even see a few dandelion blossoms.
I think I can safely say it's spring here.

(96,220 posts)and taking breaks can be the best thing to do.
I like breaks. People should work between breaks instead of breaks between work. If that makes any sense.
Pick up a camera and join us in the photography group.

(114,904 posts)I used to take a lot of photos and recently someone gave me a little coolpix thingie. I keep saying that I'm an analog person in a digital world. I've been taking tons of pics with the durn little thing. Yesterday I went to the bread and puppet museum and took several. I've been walking this cool stone/rock labyrinth near my home and I took some rare sunny day pics there and some of the river. Now I just have to figure out how to download the pics to my computer so I can share them.
You've given me a good motivation to figure that out!

It's good that it is light earlier and I don't have to get up in total darkness. But this lack of warmth is getting on our nerves...
Hubby keeps wanting to turn off the heat, but even he is now bowing to the inevitable...

(291,741 posts)We disagree on some issues but you're missed in GD
We've had some warm, spring-like days, some unseasonably warm days, with cold, rainy, and frosty days mixed in. And we had snow on Friday.
Our usual pattern is: cool through May, begin warming in June, get hot in July and August, start cooling down in September, turn on the heat in October.
We've been all over the map last fall, through the winter we just concluded, and into spring, with unseasonably warm spells, drier at some times, then heavier snow than usual, and wetter than usual later on...
I hope things are going well for you in all arenas.
it is May 1st, the official FIRST day of SUMMER.
Kind of a cold one though, after we sweated a bunch last week.
Supposed to be close to 80 by Monday though, so you might get that by next Thursday. Okay, Baltimore will. You probably still have a few more weeks of spring way up north.
But take heart. I had to cut the grass last Wednesday.
