On The Mike Gallagher Show, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had this to say about Obama and the White House when it comes to Benghazi, “Our Democratic friends, for the most part, have been in the tank over Benghazi. They think it’s to get me reelected. Some guy said this about me yesterday on the left: The only reason I cared about this was because I have six tea party opponents. Well, if that’s true, I’m the biggest scumbag in America. I don’t think that’s true; I know it’s not true. It would be almost impossible for Lindsey Graham — given who I am and what I’ve been doing for the last 20 years — not to care about those in harm’s way, who get killed, and not go on to hold the administration accountable that lied about it…The scumbags are the people in the White House who lied about this.”




Graham laughed while he called President Obama and the White House scumbags. Let’s be clear about this Graham was definitely calling the President Of The United States a liar and a scumbag. This is part of the low that a much maligned senator as Lindsey Graham has to sink to in order to hold on to his seat in red state South Carolina. Republicans have been claiming for nearly two years that the president and his White House are lying about Benghazi. Republicans have never offered a shred of evidence that anyone associated with the White House is lying. In March, the Pentagon revealed that the now more than 50 congressional hearings, briefings and interviews have cost taxpayers millions of dollars. Republicans have spent millions of dollars investigating Benghazi, and they have turned up nothing. Yet, Lindsey Graham is sure that the White House is full of scumbags who are lying about Benghazi.



THE LIAR HERE IS SEN. GRAHAM. In a 1998, Roll Call article, Graham was busted for claiming that he served overseas during the Gulf War:

Despite repeated statements that he served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Rep. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was actually living out of harm’s way at home in South Carolina, where he was processing wills and other paperwork for the Air Force during the entire course of the conflict.

On his official web site, Graham describes himself as “an Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm veteran.” Other biographies he has written read similarly. According to numerous military experts The Hill contacted, Graham has no legitimate claim to being called a veteran of the conflict.

Lindsey Graham will lie about anything in order to keep his seat. He lied about his military service, just like he is lying about Benghazi.

5. "...Lindsey Graham’s WAR LIE: Bigger than Richard Blumenthal’s...

Long before he was the Senate’s most powerful sometimes-moderate who won’t support the climate bill he helped draft because of personal pique, Lindsey Graham was just another politician who repeatedly lied about fighting in a war overseas.


According to his (current) official bio, “Graham logged six-and-a-half years of service on active duty as an Air Force lawyer.” After he left the active duty force, he joined the South Carolina Air National Guard. During the first Gulf War, Graham was called up to act as staff judge advocate at McEntire Air National Guard Base in South Carolina. As staff judge advocate, Graham’s duties “included briefing pilots on the law of armed conflict, preparing legal documents for deploying troops, and providing legal services for family members of the South Carolina Air National Guard. ” His service never took him out of South Carolina.


And so, naturally, for years afterward, Lindsey Graham referred to himself in his official biography and elsewhere as “an Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm veteran.”


The truth came out in 1998, while then-Rep. Graham was working hard to impeach Bill Clinton. The Hill newspaper broke the story that he was calling himself a vet despite not being one. Graham insisted he had never explicitly said he served overseas or saw combat, but any reading of his official bio made it obvious that he wanted to people to think he did. And it worked!

Yet almost all of the standard political biographies about Graham describe his military record inaccurately. “USAF, 1990, Pursian (sic) Gulf” is how Who’s Who in America and affiliated biographical books list him. The Almanac of American Politics states that Graham “was called up to active duty and served in the Gulf War.”

Although Graham said he is not responsible for the Who’s Who entry and considers it inaccurate, he does acknowledge providing the information for his web site and other biographies that list him as a war veteran.

Bob Somerby notes that Lindsey Graham escaped from the incident relatively unscathed. In 2002, when Graham was running for his Senate seat, Joe Conason discovered that Graham’s website still had the misleading biography. And it was still leading people to write stories claiming Graham served overseas. But Graham was elected anyway.

Since then, everyone seems to have completely forgotten that Lindsey Graham lied about being a war veteran. Richard Blumenthal, who seems to have been slightly more careful with his words than Graham was (and who never lied in his official bio!), may not be so lucky.

6. Reagan said he helped to liberate death camps in WWII

Yet Bush’s self-serving revisions cannot compare with the fantastic recollections of the late Ronald Reagan, whose veneration by Republicans was never diminished by his bizarre utterances. In November 1983, he told Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir during a White House visit that while serving in the U. S. Army film corps, his unit had shot footage of the Nazi concentration camps as they were liberated. He repeated the same tale to Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal and other witnesses. Reagan had indeed served in the Army and worked on morale-boosting movies for the War Department. But he had done so without ever leaving Hollywood for the entire duration of the war.
