Police called to airport for 'unruly child'
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Crew members on a Sky West flight contacted PDX Airport authorities Tuesday night, to report some unruly passengers on the plane.
"Police were asked to meet a plane because there was a family onboard with what the flight crew called 'an unruly child,'" said airport spokesman Steve Johnson.
Authorities were waiting as the family of four got off the flight coming from Long Beach, California. Crew members say the two children onboard, ages eight and three, would not stay in their seats during take-off and landing.
"No charges were filed," Johnson said, "but it was disruptive."

The crew of a Skywest-operated Alaska Airlines plane asked Port of Portland police to meet their incoming flight from Long Beach, Calif., after two young children refused to stay in their seats and buckle their seat belts.
Airline spokeswoman Marianne Lindsey says port police talked with the family of two adults and two children, aged 3 and 8, after the flight landed Tuesday night at Portland International Airport. Lindsey says an Alaska Airlines supervisor then talked to the family about the need to comply with federal air regulations that children must remain buckled in their seats for safety.

(33,497 posts)who were spoken to about making sure their children are buckled and in their seats--as they should be. The flight crews have enough to worry about without having to babysit somebody elses kids when they should be doing it themselves.

(5,213 posts)If you have a three year old loose in the aisle upon landing, the child can become a human missile. Consider that the average jet is touching down at 140 mph and it stops suddenly. Not only can the child be killed from the impact, but the impact could be the back of another passengers head!

(2,657 posts)has gotten stupid. what's next TSA going to say that children on board are now a "Terrorist" weapon? They going to ban children?
I hate this country.

(3,249 posts)Nobody has to follow FAA regulations? The ones for their safety?
If one of the kids was injured on landing because he wasn't strapped in, who should be taking the heat? The aircrew? The parents can sue the airline because their kid got hurt?
Sometimes I hate this country, too.

(29,371 posts)As someone else in this thread stated, either the children or someone could have been killed. There is also no reason an eight-year-old cannot be self-motivated to behave.

(14,881 posts)parents must control their children, for everybody's safety. A lot of parents out there don't seem to get that.

(5,457 posts)to kids running around in a restaurant where servers are carrying hot food to tables. I raised 7 kids and they all knew manners and
appropriate behavior. As it was those kids could have been seriously injured and injure innocent people also. The were a threat to the safety of everyone on the plane.

(25,415 posts)We went to a trip from CT to FL. It really is not that hard to do. An 8 year old should know better. I doubt calling the police was necessary though. Just tell these people to get off the plane if they don't make their kids follow the rules. Unless the parents were unruly and refused to do that, the calling of the police seems like overkill.

(17,162 posts)Clearly they are raising little monsters who will have no regard
or respect for other people when they get older.
If the parents could not control them, what were was the flight crew supposed to do?
Let it slide? So they could do the same thing on the next flight?
If I had been on that flight, I would have personally buckled those kids in
and sat with them to make sure they did not run around.
What the hell were the parents doing?
Nothing, obviously.
Maybe they though it was "cute."
If you can't control your kids, you shouldn't have them.
Especially in public spaces where they have no respect or regard for
other people... I hate when parents allow their kids to do what ever the hell they please
in restaurants, libraries, the market etc...
Not EVERY one thinks your unruly and rude brat is "cute" parents
