A friend of a friend claims she got hit on by Bill Clinton

At a White House party. I won't get specific, because it might reveal her identity. (Feel free to assume that I'm lying about this.)

If you're still with me... she found it to be both totally disgusting and totally intriguing. He was good at his craft. She didn't jump at the opportunity, but she thought about it, and she was more than a decade older than Lewinsky, far more experienced in "the ways of the world". And she was close to Hillary, not Bill.

Think about it. The President of the United States. A bit of a power imbalance there.

Anyway, when I heard that story, I became much more sympathetic towards Ms. Lewinsky. How do you say no to... that?

(Somehow, I suspect that this post will make everyone who reads it angry at me for some reason or another.)

self-serving. I'm sure it was just as I perceived the personal attacks as self-serving with much more credibility since my comment was not even close to a personal attack. For some people though, disagreeing with them on anything IS a personal attack. Only they know the 'truth'. So again, Manny is right to anticipate such behavior.

Each of them said he has a magnetism, a spark, a "something about him" -- something that made each of them feel like they were the most important person in the world. Each of them said it was almost uncanny.

Because I was active in politics at that time, I got a ticket to stand in the inner ring of the security fences. Several thousand were at the speech all told.

When he left the podium he came to the fence to shake hands, the crowd surged. I was lifted off my feet and carried forward by the press of the crowd -- that was the first fascinating thing. The second fascinating thing was that when he shook my hand I literally felt a charge. When he passed the fence coming back I stuck my hand out and had it shaken again. Again the nearly electric charge.

I have to say that from that moment on I gained an understanding of why so many women just fell over backwards when alone with the Big Dog. Mojo indeed.

psychopaths. Now before anyone jumps all over me, psychopaths CAN lead good, law abiding lives if they believe it is in their best interests. There was a bit on CNN with Anderson Cooper and some researcher who said that all modern presidents (and VPs) rate very high on the psychopath scale except for Carter and Gore.

Psychopaths are known for being intensely magnetic and being able to size up a person in the blink of an eye (and play to their strengths or weaknesses, hence knowing what makes a person tick...which makes them able to make that person feel important). This same researcher said that most public personalities - especially in media and politics - are also high on the scale. He said he, himself, is rated very high but that because he has a lot of extrinsic motivation to do good in the world thanks to his parents, his community etc he grew up choosing the right path. However, he did say that sometimes he is 'empathy impaired' and this leads him to have to really think about his decisions. Another thing he mentioned is that these changed thinking patterns are visible on a brain scan...their brains really are wired differently. Interesting interview, anyhow.

His contemporaries said he was so charismatic it was as if his guests were under hypnosis. And like Napoleon, Clinton is a genius (though probably not to the same extent).

But he will never be remembered as great because he wasn't bold, at least not in noble ways. Compromise-minded people are rarely seen as great.

He could have been mentioned in the same way as FDR or Lincoln if he had been born with boldness and a strong moral compass. For Clinton, I think power, wealth and women like Monica are enough, which is a real shame.

I believe it mainly because the list of women he didn't hit on is probably a much shorter one.

But, Kennedy got Marilyn Monroe, the likes of which this horndog never got close to.

FWIW, my favorite quote about Kissinger is that any man who could climb the Great Wall of China and Jill St. John in the same year is a man to be reckoned with.

And, to get back to more innocent times, Jimmy Walker, the infamous Tammany mayor of New York once gave a speech at a women's club and was asked if he was circumcised. "Madam, I prefer to wear it off", he answered to rowdy cheers.

Passion between people is a real vice. Talent and presence are aphrodisiacs. He has both.

I would suspect, like drugs to a junkie, or liquor to a drunk, human-ness leaves us all vulnerable. Sadly it's the stuff of great books, movies and plays. I'm sad to revisit this chapter.

I have several chapters in my life which I'd rather have stay shut. Maybe we all do.

People who have the charisma, magnetism and attractiveness to make it to the White House not infrequently apply these gifts in other situations. And it's not just the case in the US. For UK DUers, John Major and Edwina Currie will spring to mind. And as for the French.....

Yes, he was a despicable horndog and totally irresponsible given their prospective positions, but I have a problem with the depiction of the 24 year old college graduate as a victim.

... get it right, at the very least.

And yes, my mom bought her book, I read it.

It doesn't matter who hit on who first, it doesn't matter which one of them was married, it doesn't matter which was male or female. It takes two to tango, they were equally culpable as either one of them could have said "No, this is a bad idea." I don't have much sympathy for either of them on this.

It sucked that it became such a huge national issue, but he was the President, and she knew that -- just as she knew he was married.

But as others have noted earlier (and I myself noted it when I met him) the man has an uncanny magnetism and an ability to focus so completely on you that you think he's trying to seduce you. Few people have that kind of charisma, and it can be misinterpreted.

as I've heard similar stories from women who met him. Not outright invitation, but flirty and open.

Not surprising that a politician would cheat.

Having said that, the obsession with it (on the part of the GOP... and talking about it now...how many years later?????) is bizarre and unnatural.

I have no problem with believing that both you and your friend are reporting this honestly.

Years ago, I had an opportunity to meet President Clinton. I passed on it. (Likewise, though for different reasons, I did not take up an opportunity to be part of a small, informal dinner with Andrew Cuomo when he was running for governor.)

There are politicians that I've felt honored to meet -- including both Hillary Clinton and Mario Cuomo. In fact, I met each of those two twice. And there are others that I have no interest in meeting, because I have no respect for them as human beings, even if I recognize their political talents.

Warren admits to signing the letter urging Hillary to run. She also reiterated three times in a row in a single interview that she will not run for president. She also said Hillary is terrific.

I know you were hurt by this and I can understand you're feeling down.

But that's no reason to create a story out of thin air detailing how Bill Clinton hit on your friend.

This just reeks of pure desperation.

instances of Bill Clinton making advances on women, and I am NOT talking about the repuke paula jones and flowers, I am talking about Democratic women who have came forward

He may have done some good things, but frankly he had major problems, and the pattern of that behavior, was long before he became president.

Frankly, his sexual problems were as bad as the newt. Please though hold him up to that high standard.

Something else, he is STUPID. Having a fucking blow job in the oval office is as stupid as they come. He hurt Hillary, the Democratic party, and the country by his reckless bullshit

Please continue to hold in a higher standard, as he signed off on deregulation, helped destroy welfare, and gave the repukes everything they had been working toward for decades
