I think there are real reasons as to why it's tougher to make age-differential relationships last, but if you can do it, age is just a number. (With the caveat, of course, that you're both actually adults. Gotta wait until both people's brains have fully developed. Which is also why I'd raise the minimum age limit for military service to 21.)

As if kids arent having sex at 13, watching porno, ect. Kids do not want to have sex with 20 yr olds. 13 yr olds think adults are "old, not cool"

I preferred adults to hang with, they drove and they were full of stories about WW2, travel, my folks trusted me to go on camping trips and adventures. I and my older friends(not female) watched TV from my bed, and College males took me to Australia on an Opal Mine tour when I was 14.On that trip I was everyones little sister and God help any male who approached. I didnt want sex until age 29.
Why do you think little girls are stupid? Only uninformed girls are subjective to sleezy men. Subjective girls and women usually come from religious pious and abusive homes that teach their wimmenfolk that they are worthless and ugly and sinners. Family is proud when their 13-16 yr BOYs pop their cherries, but daughters are not allowed to experiment as nature intended. Birth control and self value is all girls need to prevent pregnancy unless Republicans remove all safety tools.

even if some of the pics you're referencing were far more sexually suggestive. I think it was the part about young girls' virginity being 'promised' to 'daddy boyfriend' until they got married to some other guy. I mean seriously, if you want to get all religious, couldn't you have your daughter promise her 'purity' to the church, rather than to daddy? Have her be like a nun in training or something until she decides to wed, or chooses to abandon that particular 'vow'.

And comparing that to the willow smith pics sarcastically.

There was a recent posting with pics taken at 'dad and daughter purity balls' with the daughters dressed up in bridal gowns and dads in suits or military uniforms, with the dads hugging or kissing the girls (one even directly on the lips) after the girls took part in ceremonies where they 'pledged their virginity' to their fathers to guard until they got married. More 'women as chattel goods' patriarchy, with creepy incestual overtones.

Funny how we never hear about purity balls for young boys, with mom as the "girlfriend" and penis-owner

I get the impression that the divide on DU over this non-story arises from different sorts of family experiences. For example, I grew up in a household where there was a wide age range of siblings and, sure, when various brothers and sisters have their friends over, anyone may be "hanging out with" anyone else at any given time in that circle of friends.

Wasn't this young man good friends with her brother? They'd probably all hung around like this for years. Obviously, they weren't alone, someone had to have taken the pictures. Do you think if whoever was taking them thought she was in danger in any way they'd have allowed the situation in the first place? Sometimes a family friend is just that. I used to lounge around on the floor with my brother and his friends all the time watching movies or playing games .... sometimes even in shorts and a tank top while they were occasionally shirtless ... I'm sure glad no-one had a camera.

But she's not mad at Willow -- she's mad at the press.

"Here's the deal: There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation," Smith told TMZ after getting off a flight in Los Angeles. "You guys are projecting your trash onto it, and you're acting like covert pedophiles, and that's not cool."

I'm glad that I have a team of PR handlers to advise of the likely repercussions, so that I can brace for the inevitable backlash without making it look like a deliberate attempt for media attention.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022583041#post69

It's the one where I told my daughters that they were free to be topless in our house if they wanted.

But you wouldn't know what came after. My daughters don't hold anything back. They mentioned our discussion to their mother, who had a fit. She 'complained' to a therapist my daughters were seeing. (Post-divorce issues, some anxiety and teenage angst).

I hadn't known this therapist (let's call her M) bragged about her Christian approach to matters. If I had, I would never have given my permission for my daughters to see her. My attorney, btw, once ran into her in the courtroom and calls her a 'moron'. And another word I won't mention since it was said in the heat of the moment.

Anyways, I dutifully went in to see M and my ex when called to do so regarding 'matters to discuss'.

M went on about how my behavior was a risk and that sex should only be between two committed, loving individuals. She also said that a daughter parading in front of her father was the definition of incest.

Well, never mind that my daughters have never 'paraded' in front of me and will never do so, I later looked up the definition of incest for our state and she simply lied.

Throughout this bizarre 'ambush conversation', I kept my cool and M began to raise her voice, at times being unable to even meet my eyes. It was the most glorious 'battle' with a fundamentalist I have ever engaged in. And why I will always maintain that the best way to deal with these people is to stay cool and state the facts rather than lash out.

It ended with M saying she might have no choice but to report me to CPS. My response: "You do what you think is right. I have nothing to hide and nothing to be embarrassed about." Oh, she was livid and it was beautiful!

She did report me to CPS, who interviewed my daughters then me. We had a good chuckle over the phone about my ex's antics and that was the end of it.

My point in relating this is that some seem to automatically assume the worst regarding these pictures. All too often that's the result of seeing things through the filter of a manual instead of looking at things realistically. The real world usually doesn't relate well to a book of procedures.

And I think this entire broohaha is nonsense. Always, of course, absent evidence of abuse or neglect. But since there is none, it is what it is -some pictures. Nothing else.

Willow Smith did no wrong, her parents did no wrong, and the guy did no wrong. From what I understand, he is a family friend.

Good to know that I shouldn't be trusted with my friend's kids. Seriously, thanks. If ONLY there was this place where people my age would go for a few years where relationships can be formed... Oh, wait.

Saw the photos. I don't see the big deal. Nothing's going on in them.

I can assure you, from experience, that nothing sexual was going to run through his head.

You see, he is probably in college. He most likely has a smarter, more mature, and of legal age girlfriend. If not, he can get one easily, I'm sure. (He can take his shirt off and be photographed, for instance.)

I'm sure that even without the camera crew/photographers/makeup people/caterers/etc., nothing would happen.

The jist: 20 year olds have self control. You're all overreacting.
