(25,406 posts)Obviously NY is blue because of all the people who walk to work in NYC. But making the entire state blue is kind of misleading. And Illinois and Wisconsin are probably only in the 3 to 3.9 category because of people walking to work in Chicago and Milwaukee.
And am I alone in finding Alaska a little baffling here?

(380 posts)... I live in NYC. I think you'll find many more people who take the subway and bus to work than walk.

(5,417 posts)So if Anchorage is very walkable, it could boost the states numbers. I also assume if people only walk half the year, it still counts. If I lived in Achorage, I would be willing to walk 1/2 a mile in the summer when its 70. When its 0 degrees in the winter, I would drive.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
