Having trouble with Du loading? What ISP are you using?

I asked the Admins why I could load in a proxy page and not directly and they suggested I was having problems with my isp or location.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12595802

I don't know. Maybe it is the isp that is doing it. I also know I am not the only one having the problem. I am using centurylink dsl. Which ISP do you use? Only answer if you are having trouble loading this site.

It's possible your ISP is having issues with their DNS servers, that happened with mine a few years ago for a couple of days. Worth a try to see if it helps, you can always change it back.

Try some alternate domain names for DU:

metamorphosis.democraticunderground.com (216.158.28.195)

upload.democraticunderground.com (216.158.28.197)

sync.democraticunderground.com (216.158.28.199)

election.democraticunderground.com (216.158.54.195)

betterment.democraticunderground.com (216.158.54.197)

I haven't been having issues - when I ping www.democraticunderground.com it goes to 216.158.28.199, so maybe try sync.democraticunderground.com.

15. Some thoughts and a suggestion
Mon May 12, 2014, 03:17 PM
May 2014

Just going by the anecdotal evidence in this thread it appears that CenturyLink might be the problem. It may be possible that we have ended up on some kind of blacklist for whatever reason. My guess is that this was not done on purpose because it appears they are not blacklisting all of our servers. It seems that DUers who have CenturyLink are able to access the site sometimes but not others. If they were blocking all of our servers, CenturyLink DUers would not be able to access DU at all.

If you are on CenturyLink, you can try each one of these servers in turn:

http://betterment.democraticunderground.com
http://election.democraticunderground.com
http://metamorphosis.democraticunderground.com
http://sync.democraticunderground.com
http://upload.democraticunderground.com

If some of those come up but others don't, please reply to this post and let me know.

To be clear: this does not appear to be an issue at our end. We are not having any server problems and DU is coming up fine for me on both Comcast and Verizon here in the DC area.

EDITED TO ADD: Elad has just reported that one of our servers *is* having an issue at this time, but I'm not sure if this is related to the problems that we were having over the weekend. You can still try the different servers above and see if any of them work for you.

I don't have a Linux system here so I can't run traceroute with a larger packet size to see where it fails.

My ISP is CenturyLink, which seems to be a common element among many of us with problems.

Mon May 12, 2014, 04:10 PM

because their scripts deleted characters and basically sent everybody that was part of that registrar into oblivion. The IP's were there, but the names and links were dead because of a bad script. If you know the IP of where you want to go, you can get there. If you don't and refer to a bad set of "links", you won't.

This looks remarkably similar.

The takeaway is that you have to let it all replicate and that is going to take time. All of the good servers have to chat and shut up the bad server that is cursing and etc.
