My favorite rabbi in Hebrew school never gave a grade higher than 98%: only The Creator could ever be perfect (100%), and even 99% was too close to 100% for a mortal to receive.
On whole, given our great imperfections, how do you think DUers compare to other people with regard to treating others?

Among the regulars, a lot of 'em seem to be pretty decent, while others go out of their way to be asshats. I guess it's cheap entertainment.

Also...
I'm a way bigger asshole in real life than I am here at DU.
Also again...
You only have my word for that.

(36,272 posts)democratic or further left my guess is that they are paying their taxes and probably giving a lot of time to causes they believe in (if not money). If you mean how they relate to others in a personal conversational way that is hard to tell. Sometimes people with the hardest shell are the softest inside - that shell is usually there for a reason. Many on here have been oppressed in various ways and that is naturally going to make them more sensitive to others.

(5,937 posts)I work in social services, providing SNAP food stamps and Medicaid for families and individuals. Everyone who walks in my door is worthy of the same respect and treatment, regardless of their politics, thoughts, words or deeds. I have had people from all walks of life I have clients who come from around the world with different ethnicity's speaking a multitude of languages and dialects, they get treated the same, with respect and compassion.
I have had clients who are no fans of the current president, and from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. One of my tasks is to ask if they are registered to vote so you can see how politics often times is brought up and discussed. Again, I treat them the same, with respect and compassion. As a caseworker I have come to appreciate everyone as we all struggle to get by in this life, I am privileged and relieved that I do not have to see people as red or blue, left or right. I do not judge, I serve, everyone.

(21,044 posts)Off the evidence of recent discussions, I would say we're a middling lot. I'd put maximum security federal prisons at the low end. We have a pretty clear moral edge there. At the high end I'd put an ICU in a good hospital, maybe staffed by nursing nuns. We do appear to hold the moral high ground with regard to Republicans and Teabaggers, so that's something..
