Sometimes the truth hurts. This is supposed to be a Democrat forum and yet center-left DEMOCRATS frequently have their opinions censored by activist far-left juries.

(11,481 posts)that it's a RIGHT WING, REPUBLICAN trait to use "Democrat" when it should be "Democratic".
And as an aside, speaking as one of the MOST left wing posters here, I RARELY vote to hide any posts. It has to be incontrovertibly a personal attack for me to vote to hide.

(14,733 posts)They often seem to have at best a passing acquaintance with spelling, poor grammar, and manifest this odd misunderstanding of the difference between adjectives and nouns, as demonstrated time and again with the 'Democrat' noun being used where the adjectival form should be expected...
You don't see the left going around talking about the 'Republic' Party.

(10,745 posts)Sometimes the truth hurts.
True, true. In my own personal experience, this seems to be especially apparent when I have attempted to explain why a certain version of "white privilege" theory(that is, the literalist one, the one in which white people as a collective supposedly have actual tangible privilege that they actively benefit from every day.) so beloved by certain elements on DU doesn't make sense, or exist in any real form. Or when I've pointed out that the belief that People of Color can't be racist is also not based on reality. Or how Eddie Snowden isn't actually the hero he's been made out to be. Or how climate doomers' fearmongering is harming the prospects of actually getting things done in terms of actual progress on fighting climate change.
And in every single case, I'm not the only one who's pointed this stuff out. But some people, for whatever reason, whether they're trolls or other malcontents with an axe to grind, or just passionate people who happen to fall on the wrong side of things who just get really caught up on their arguments(in my experience, the latter has constituted the majority of cases that I've dealt with).....just can't seem to get a clue or let go. And I mean no offense to any of the people who fall into the latter group, at least, by the way. Because I know you guys, at least, are decent folks thru and thru.

(31,849 posts)"white privilege literal versus philosophical" yarn ... but when I ask you where you get it from, you disappear ... only to re-appear to spin away ... oh, and to complain that no one will listen to you.
So I'll ask you again ...
Please link to a single social scientist that holds your interpretation of white privilege. I'd love to see where this "literal white privilege versus philosophical white privilege" idea comes from ... though I can already guess.

AverageJoe90
(10,745 posts)Every time I asked for proof when an allegation was brought up, no proof was ever offered. By anyone who made them.
No, the real reason I was kicked out of E & E, if you must know, was because I stood up to doomerist bullshit. That's what happened.
So, you gonna offer me any proof?
LeftyMom
(49,212 posts)I'm not sure if you do it because the data is ugly and you choose not to believe it, or if it's because you want to poison the well and prevent productive discussion.
But I'm sitting here in the middle of the most fertile farm country on earth, where nobody can grow shit this year because there's no goddamn water, where we're bracing ourselves for the inevitable wildfires this summer (not that they stopped in the winter, but they slowed somewhat) and I have no patience with your denialism. "It's not going to be that bad! Because DOOOMERS!" is a not a convincing argument when real pain from climate change can be found right outside my window. Today.

(31,849 posts)He's demanding "Proof" from you ... while running from my demand for proof, or even support of his invented notion.

AverageJoe90
(10,745 posts)So honestly, given that, I quickly realized that it would be a *major* waste of time trying to go any further. So I have nothing else to say to you, except that it's apparent that the only way you'll see the truth is to open your own eyes and look for yourself. Otherwise, I'm done with this.

(31,849 posts)"Oh ... I understand completely now!"
You keep saying that "the only way you'll see the truth is to open your own eyes and look for yourself" ... Is that a version of "Look it up; I'm not going to do your research for you"? (The statement that many make when they know they have nothing to back up their claim). You're right, I'm not going to listen to you invent a term, then use that invented term to interpret what the academics "intended" to mean ... especially when you are completely unable to come up with a single academician that supports you interpretation.
I couldn't help but notice that you posted a link above to support you "climate denying" position; yet you can't be bothered to post a link to your "invented" argument. Why is that?
AverageJoe90
(10,745 posts)You're right, I'm not going to listen to you invent a term, then use that invented term to interpret what the academics "intended" to mean ... especially when you are completely unable to come up with a single academician that supports you interpretation.
Just stop with this shit, alright? If you actually had any idea about this, you'd understand at least on a basic level, the problems I've discussed. And I might as well just come out and say it: I'll admit that my own knowledge may not be perfect in this regard. But neither is yours. And I don't know what it'll take for you to wake the fuck up: frankly, only you yourself have the answer to that, if anything.
But if nothing else, at least get started by listening to someone who's actually done some work(including writing a book on the subject!), who is quite sympathetic to the real plights suffered by PoC, both on an individual level and on a collective level.....and who's married to an African-American. And still has some legitimate criticism to offer.

(43,891 posts)... Progressives feel it's their duty to trash Democrats but are absolutely appalled when they get it back.
winter is coming
(11,785 posts)I'd say that progressives feel it's their duty to advocate progressive policies and criticize policies they believe are damaging. That's not the same thing as criticizing someone for the sake of trashing Dems and if you looked more closely, you'd see that there are a fair few people on this board who aren't happy with the Dem leadership but who don't believe they eat live babies, or even dead ones.
Nor are the progressives I know "appalled" by criticism. In my experience, they're resigned to it. That doesn't mean they'll leap up with gladness to support politicians who have dismissed their concerns in the past and will likely do so in the future.

(11,785 posts)
And that you characterize progressives as the left's Tea Party? Yeah, that's not prejudiced at all. Progressive Dems have supported Dem candidates for years, and still do so. Progressives aren't some astroturf group that's sprung up on the fringe of a political party. It's a portion of the Democratic party that has remained in place while the party leadership keeps sidling to the right, becoming ever more Republican.

All of this wailing and gnashing of teeth from DU's "progressives" is because of Hillary's rise in the polls. Ya'll just love to pick the scabs off that sore.

Re your thread in GD: I don't think it's going to end well and GD hosts are probably going to have to step in and lock it soon, so this would be a good chance to self delete if you're so inclined. But otherwise it's most likely going to get locked in a few minutes, thank you.
