I target shoot! We own two .22's and a .38!

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Autumn (a host of the General Discussion forum).

And they should always be registered.

We do not keep ammo in the house because we do not have a safe place to store them AND ammo. If someone hurts themselves with our weapons it will be because they dropped them on their toes- IF they can find them.

We feel safe with a snippy 13 pound terrier mix, and a mean as hell cat (seriously- we warn everyone- do NOT pet The Stink)- We sleep with a cell phone by the bed.

We used to eat meat- and still would if we had friends that hunt. We are not opposed to hunting at all when it means food on the table. We are opposed to "trophy hunting."

Guns and ammo need to be regulated to hell and back in this country, and frankly- we are more than willing to pay taxes out the wazzoo for that-

People need to quit being so damned stupid about their guns-

And I was taught from the time I got my first hunting license (when I was 12) to respect guns. I remember my dad asking me how I'd feel if I accidentally shot someone I loved (like my granny) how bad I would feel. Obviously, that had an effect on me since it was over 40 years ago.

I don't have any guns now - my wife (she grew up around guns too) doesn't like guns, and I didn't own any when we got married - I sure wouldn't want them around my kids (even though they're adults now).

I understand that people like guns and I like your attitude about them. The idea that people should have guns to protect their homes is just asinine. I'm like you, I've got a cell phone next to my bed for protection.

There is some level of it that is a sense of belonging - they respect people who have guns, and they are trying to impress them. At least that's my guess.

There is however, something wrong with some gun owners.

I too own a couple handguns, but I don't mind registering them and presenting myself for a background check. Here in Ohio I even had to wait a week once before I could buy a second pistol as a gift for my youngest son.

Of course those were the olden days (back in the '90s I think), but the world incredibly still turns, I'm still free, and jack booted govt thugs have yet to storm my house to confiscate them. Go figure.

Should a person be able to carry an AK-47 around too?

62. You're the one arguing against even the mildest of restrictions.

I have no wish to take your guns away. But I'd prefer if a background check and registration or licensing of some sort were required for firearm purchases. That would still entail laxer gun laws than nearly every other First World country.

63. "Mildest restrictions"? Based on?

In this thread the only thing I've opposed in taxation as a means of prohibition and the arbitrary use of a "need" standard for certain rights.

I guess I've just gotten accustomed to people knee-jerk rejecting even mild gun-control measures, like the ones I mentioned. But I realize that the majority of gun owners aren't so unreasonable.

48. Why so many different types, if you don't mind me asking? Are you a collector?

Nothing wrong with that either, mind you. I have no problem with people owning multiple guns so long as they're responsible.

25. Dick Van Dyke's wife kept her husband's .22 ammunition in her jewelry box.

When he heard a prowler in the house he quietly opened the box to get the ammo and it played the Blue Danube.

This was an actual incident that was used in one of the Dick Van Dyke show's episodes.

36. I really do not see where there should be such a big deal with registering guns.

We register for a social security number so we might draw a check in the future. We register our children for school. We register our vehicles, buy insurance, we get our vehicles inspected for safe operation. Males register for the draft. Why are gun owners so exempt? This needs to change.

BTW, you register to join NRA,also

That one got started first, got locked first. Wanna make a friendly wager on how long it will be?
I guess ten to 15 minutes. I don't want anything for winning. Betting is its own reward.
