Unless that graduate (or those) was a family friend, imagine having this in your scrapbook when you were looking forward to a once in a lifetime photo of a dignified handshake from the Commander in Chief.

The exception was my class at university where there were so many baccalaureates we were instructed to rise as one, flip our tassels from one side of the hat to the other, congratulated and told to sit again. We were handed a diploma folder on the way out and the actual one was mailed to us.
Masters' candidates were called up by name, their major given, "hood" over the head, handshake, go sit down. PhDs got the full treatment including a brief precis of their dissertation topic, and told (this was the part I absolutely loved) "Welcome to the community of scholars."

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
