Good find.

Now it IS a good find.
The photo and the policy depicted are true, but the "Founding Fathers" quote was from Reagan speaking about the Contras in Nicaragua, not the Taliban.
I lived through those days, I remember it well. It was when Reagan was trying to convince Congress to increase funding for the Contras. Congress refused and thus Iran-Contra came to be - Reagan began secretly selling arms to Iran to get funds for the Contras.
I wrote the above in reference to the original, inaccurate "meme" that was first posted in the OP. The OP has now replaced it.

(32,723 posts)The TV show "Miami Vice" was propaganda for the War On Drugs the same way the TV show "24" is propaganda for the War On Terrorism.
To this day people honestly BELIEVE there were shootouts in the streets of Miami between drug cartels and the cops because they saw it every week on a TV show. The show shifted in it's later seasons to one that exposed The Big Lie. Everything from the US funding death squads to evil Wall Street bankers profiting off of the sale of cocaine.
Years from now the people who watch "24" will actually BELIEVE there were sleeper cells all over America and think torture worked to stop nukes from going off.

Below is what I originally posted when the inaccurate "meme" was in the OP. Now that the OP has removed it, my objection no longer applies.
I applaud the OP's action in removing the offending meme, and I applaud the sentiment of the post.
He said it about the Contras in Nicaragua. I lived through those days. I know this from my own memory, and I was utterly horrified when he said that.
Re-writing history to suit a stupid internet meme totally pisses me off. If people actually KNEW their history, they wouldn't be trying to pass off that quote as something it wasn't.

(22,666 posts)So as not to include the erroneous quote/meme thing.
GOP is still ridiculously hypocritical in their criticism of Obama's deal to get Mr. Bergdahl back considering much worse deals Republican presidents have made.

(31,893 posts)And I totally agree with you on the GOP's hypocrisy.
I'll edit my own posts to reflect your change of photo - I don't want to take away from your overall excellent message.
Thank you again!

(31,893 posts)Reagan DID also meet with Afghani Mujahideen, some of whom later became the Taliban.
This gives a fairly good overview of Reagan's excellent foreign policy adventures:

(82,078 posts)Promising them - what was it? We promise you "a carpet of gold," versus "a carpet of bombs"
Until now, says the book, ''the oil and gas reserves of Central Asia have been controlled by Russia. The Bush government wanted to change all that''.
But, confronted with Taliban's refusal to accept U.S. conditions, ''this rationale of energy security changed into a military one'', the authors claim.
''At one moment during the negotiations, the U.S. representatives told the Taliban, 'either you accept our offer of a carpet of gold, or we bury you under a carpet of bombs','' Brisard said in an interview in Paris.
