(13,992 posts)When Obama made his announcement in 2007 (not 2006) he was only about three months removed from the start of serious campaign organizing. And remember that at that time, Obama was largely the third choice behind Hillary and John Edwards (remember him?).
Eighteen months is an eternity in electoral politics.

(36,926 posts)Only one who has even made a squeak or two is Joe Biden. And we all know how likely he is to win. Well, there's also Bernie Sanders, who I love, but he won't ever win the nomination, much less the general.
ForgoTheConsequence
(4,876 posts)He was known but it was still Hillary's to lose (and boy did she ever). Obama wasn't seen as a real threat until after he kicked her ass in Iowa.

(5,937 posts)That is enough for a vast majority here. HC could govern just like a republican would and they wouldnt know the difference and call her the 2nd best president next to President Obama. The corporate takeover of independent and critical thinking and adherence to principals is complete.

(7,167 posts)There are just too many progressives who are less than enthusiastic about her, to put it mildly. I'm one of them. If Hillary is the Dem nominee I will vote third party like I did in 2012. I have said it before and I'll say it again: NO WAY will I vote for that corporatist warmonger.
Sooner or later the Democratic establishment is going to have to admit that it can't win without the progressive vote. Not the centrist-moderate-independent vote but the PROGRESSIVE vote. We are, as we have always been, the base of the Democratic Party, and without us they have nothing.

Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)I'll add that this kind of thinking also hurts Hillary if she's the nominee. Those of us who would rather see a progressive nominee will back a Sanders or O'Malley or someone else, and then, if Hillary wins anyway after a fair fight (and I agree she'll be the favorite if she runs), most of us will support her in the general.
The main fly in the ointment would be if we feel that the corporate media and the party establishment have rigged the game. The best way to discourage progressives from voting for Hillary in November is to leave us with the impression that she didn't win the nomination in a fair fight.
tularetom
(23,664 posts)She has one thing going for her that Obama never had - low expectations. Yeah she'll be elected president but she won't make the changes needed to move the country in the right direction or help the middle class.
The only good thing about her is that the wing nuts hate her guts, even considering all she has done to align herself with Wall Street and the Pentagon.

(549 posts)The logic and reality is that Hillary is a terrible candidate. She was leading in 2006, too. Remember that?
But then people actually got to see her in debates and in the campaign and she sunk like a stone. Because she's a terrible candidate.
The only differences between 2006 and 2014 are Hillary is 8 years older and has 8 more years of baggage. Oh, and she's already a proven loser.
We need a NEW, FRESH and PROGRESSIVE democratic presidential candidate. Hillary is none of those things.

(30,481 posts)I do have a little hesitation. That hesitation rests in the fact that I am a big supporter of hers yet I am excited about the possibility of a Warren entering the race. As of right now, my vote in the primaries will go to Warren if she enters the race. This is a vote that did not go for Kucinich or any other dem in the 2008 primary. I would also be open to other fiscal progressives if they entered. As I said in another thread, if it is Hillary, my mother and I will be at the polls with tears of joy in our eyes as we vote for her.
