Cantor can be the republican Joe Lieberman.

I think Cantor would do it out of spite.

Then again, maybe he could win in the general election.

If you run in a primary and lose you can't run in the general as an indie or third party. The so-called 'sore loser' rule that most states have.

I thought I heard on Rachel that Virginia has a "sore loser law" that prevents an incumbent from running in the next general election if they lose their primary. So Cantor can't run at all in 2014. (Surely instead he'll have to accept the consolation prize of getting paid a million a year as a lobbyist. Poor guy.)

On edit: oops. I see several already said as much. It's early here and I haven't had my Mountain Dew yet. :/

That was the big issue in this race. That is quite a message to any Republican, and many Democrats in moderate districts.

It will never see a vote- probably not even in the Senate now.

Immigration reform was going to be done on a razor thin margian anyway, if it happened.

Now? No way.

I bet Kay Hagan is already changing her website right now. It is going to be a tight race here in NC and she will see that writing on the wall.

“I don’t run against Eric on a personal basis,” Brat said. “I like Eric as a human being, I’m commanded by God to do that and I do that. He’s been strong on national defense, and where he’s good he’s good.”

The district is solid GOP and spread out to limit minority votes but more folks from the city moving to the district. It's risky for dems if some of us voted for brat to take cantor out, there is also a libertarian running on there ticket. However there was some rumbling a few days ago dems were thinking cantor could lose if enough people voted for brat in the open primary, hint hint

Then they just killed immigration reform, because that was the big issue in the race (based on what I read, did you see different there?) and every republican and lots of Democrats in conservative districts will see the message that immigration reform is a hot potato not to touch.
