Amazon Prime Music

I was kind of pleased when I opened my Amazon Cloud Player today and it included an option for prime music I can listen to for free. I know there are some Amazon haters on this site but for $99 it's one of my favorite services I pay for, free shipping, movies, tv shows, books and now music.

1. Amazon Prime is a great deal - but Amazon is kind of evil

That said - they are filling a role that some other company would almost certainly fill, so I don't know.

2. Amazon's 1 million songs vs. Spotify/Beats/Rdio/iTunes etc who have 20 million+ songs.

But it's an add-on, so you get what you pay for...

3. and I'm sure another service that will pay little

to the artist. Other than iTunes in your list, streaming services pay the artist little to nothing. Which is sad.

4. I agree, I pay for Pandora

And this wont replace Pandora but it's a nice addon especially since I like listening to full albums. One of the downsides is of the 300 albums I already own in my cloud player a lot of them are now free with Amazon Prime.

5. We pay for Spotify. About 85% of our considerable music collection is on there.

Most of which, I have uploaded to iTunes Match.

And now Apple has purchased Beats Music.

It's sort of a confusing age for music lovers.

I did not see this five years ago. Makes me wonder what it will look like in five more years.

The next wave change will be high-definition audio. I have a handful of albums on high-def. Recently code-diggers have found evidence that Apple is building high-definition support across all of their devices.

Looking for that crystal ball...

6. I can't figure how to listen to the whole song. just samples.

I went on my Prime page, then the new music section, clicked the genre I like, and tried to listen to some of the many showing up. I only get samples. What am I doing wrong?

7. It's not very intuitive.

If the song is a Prime eligible song there is a Prime +add button with a drop down. If you just click the +add you get the song added to your library where you can listen to it, if you click the down arrow it gives the option to buy, just click the +add button.

8. with Prime - I can't tell what movies/TV shows are "free"

I'd pay the $99 if their model was more like Netflix but with the free shipping on top of it.

13. Just go to Amazon.com and enter the name of the movie or TV show.

If it's free on Prime it will say Unlimited Streaming with Prime, an Example is Hannibal Season 1 it's free on Prime while Hannibal Season 2 is pay per episode since it's still new. I was kind of angry to see that Comcast is now charging for old seasons on their OnDemand service, they used to be free but luckily almost everything Comcast wants to charge me for is free on Amazon Prime.

14. To me it's a bargain.

I got rid of cable and got a Roku, so I stream a lot of their free movies and TV (along with a couple of other services). I have a Kindle and get one free 'loaner' book a month plus a free book that hasn't yet been published (OK, some losers here). The new books on Kindle are cheaper than hardcover and everyday there are deals on books for about $2.

And yes, the shipping...free 2 day shipping. My peculator died earlier this week and I couldn't find one I wanted in a store so ordered it on Amazon; I couldn't wait for 2 day shipping (severe caffeine addiction) so got next day shipping for $3.50.

I know Amazon is heavily criticized here, often justifiably, but I admit I use it almost every day.

9. Checking it out now. LOL @ the Playlists put together by

"Amazon's Music Experts"

Hopefully this will be enough for me to ditch my Google Music subscription.

15. I like all the Indie playlists.

Spent the better part of the day today listening to them and they are on par with my subscription to Pandora.
