I keep hearing about these responsible gun owners who are so very careful with their dangerous weapons, so I can only conclude that this guy did it on purpose!
A man in Macon, Georgia accidentally shot himself in the penis while attempting to holster his gun last week.
According to WMAZ Channel 13, the man was parked at a gas station and was attempting to put away the .45 caliber pistol when it discharged, striking him in the groin. The man immediately drove to a friends house.
According to police, the victim dropped his pants to find that he had shot himself in the penis and that the bullet had exited his body through the buttocks. As he disrobed, the spent round fell to the floor.

(15,429 posts)Every gun owner is responsible all the way up to the point when they aren't.
Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)Up to the point that they are not. That is not a predictive tool but merely a statement of possibility.
I am not a deviation from the norm until the point that I deviate from the norm. What is important about this deviation is not that it denies the trend but establishes it.

(8,155 posts)And it is really only through quantitative analysis that we are able to consider trends like the real dangers of owning firearms.
MohRokTah
(15,429 posts)One can be a responsible gun owner their entire lives and my statement is still 100% true.
One cannot be a responsible gun owner once one's life has ended.
Thus the statement, "all gun owners are responsible gun owners all the way up to the point where they aren't" still holds true, even for the person who was a responsible gun owner their entire life.
Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)"It is 100% accurate in all cases."
No one with even a cursory understanding of statistics would suggest that statistical trends don't matter because of the possibility that an unlikely scenario might happen. You are suggesting a deductive solution to a matter of inductive risk. That is the exact opposite of what it means to consider statistical probability. There Is no such thing as 100% certainty in statistics.
Thus, I could now suggest that you are not a murderer right up to the point that you murder someone and that would be a ridiculous claim because it presupposes an outcome to an event which has not happened yet. Statistics are predictors, not prophecy. And you are not a prophet.
So any claim that you can know a possible future is complete and total nonsense.
If you want to make an argument about the trend of responsibility among gun owners, you have to follow the rules of statistics. Otherwise, you just end up sounding utterly foolish and making the movement look bad.

(15,429 posts)Everybody is alive all the way up to the point when they aren't.
Simple. Language.
Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)Therefore, the statement "you are alive up to the point that you are not" is an invalid argument. It presupposes the future. It says that your death is logically necessary. And, despite It being highly probable, death is not necessary.
I think you've confused "simple" with "correct."
MohRokTah
(15,429 posts)Everybody dies. Everybody reaches a point where they ARE NOT.
So, let's say you become a gun owner on your birthday at age 12.
And you are a responsible gun owner all the way up to the point when you die at 91.
You were a responsible gun owner all the way up to the point where you aren't.
Simple. Language.
And 100% accurate in ALL CASES.
The dead cannot own a gun, or anything else for that matter.
One CANNOT be a responsible gun owner when one IS NOT.
Death is the state of not being. When you are not, you cannot own anything.
Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)Non statements abound in your rhetoric. If you are attempting to say you know the future, you are a liar. If you are attempting to argue the simple logical chain that when A becomes B, it is no longer A, that is literally a statement which goes without saying. It is logically redundant. The information contained in the latter part exists plainly in the former.

Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)The idea that "simple things" just make more sense than "complex things."
This is not a matter of simplicity. Whether an idea is simple or complex, it has little or nothing to do with whether or not it is logically consistent.
You, MohRokTah, cannot foresee the future. You can merely make a statement of likelihood based on past observation. Which is not prophecy; it is not saying This must happen and This mustn't happen. I say that again because I really don't think you get it.
So the idea you espouse that there is no such thing as a responsible gun owner, BECAUSE you can conceive a possible future where said gun owner acts irresponsibly, is a matter of illogic I suspect driven by the desire to unconditionally validate your personal opinion on the matter. That is a ridiculous belief to hold.

So the humor is truly dark.
And I must admit, the genital mutilation comment down thread is funny, in a dark way.
And I will slightly correct your anatomy. This guy was lucky to miss a few structures beyond just the femoral arteries. There is one major vessel in the Penis itself. That can also lead to exsanguination, though it takes longer than the femoral artery. It is it, and the spongy tissue that leads to Mr Happy standing at attention. There is also deep innervation that can lead to shock from pain. Depending on the damage made our friend might develop anywhere from a mild to a severe case of penile dysfunction.
This is why we were taught to treat these patients aggressively for shock.
