in Iraq. Whenever I see the ISIS/ISIL or Iraqi fighters, they are shooting at the sky or straight up over a berm or just plain and simply shooting at nothing. On the other side, you have them standing in front of a vehicle, shooting at nothing in front, yet making themselves a target even I could hit.
I realize these visuals could be for the purpose of photo opportunities, but darn. Surely, they were taught how to use their guns and missiles.
Looks like a waste of ammunition just to build an ego.

(13,992 posts)That causes a problem.
Just look at pictures from the 1940's, they look very simular.
There is no humanity to these shooters, it's like they're just
shooting at piles of laundry.
This time though ISIS is what we sent to train in Jordan,
sent money to and backed to try and take down Assad.
History repeats itself again.

(45,905 posts)would that it were. Probably the biggest foreign policy blunder in the last few decades was training up the Afghanis to fight the Soviets. The gift that keeps on giving.

(16,254 posts)Most of the photos/videos I've seen are the Iraqis with some ISIS/ISIL members shooting in the air from vehicles.
Thanks.

(1,941 posts)You are seeing a show put on for the camera. It's really hard to get real combat footage as an observer. You will see this footage from cover. Many WWII scenes were staged by involved parties after the fact for the newsreels. That's not too dishonest if the guy who was in the assault scurries and fires a few rounds for the camera after the battle is over.
With gopro cameras you will see helmet footage eventually, see it first hand what it looks like to go into combat. But the accounts from those who have been there say its still damned hard to have any is situational awareness.

(16,254 posts)Certainly not a war type, but I found it interesting that these people were always firing into space.
I remember a couple or three decades ago when most of the fighting in the ME was rocks flying and tires burning. Too bad they don't go back to that to get their anger out of their system without reaching anyone with the rocks.
